How Complete Are You w/ Your Character?

Ninequads93

Beware your Fears
I've been pondering this for a while everytime I've run out of ideas in training room or feel down on my performance after a tourney etc. I ask myself:

How Complete am I really with my character???

If you could put it in percentage what would it be ? 80% , 50%, 25% :0

Ofcourse at first glance we all feel pretty complete with our mains. But when you start to think about it and looking deeper you’ll start to realize how much more there is to learn. How many situational combos have you put off learning? How many set-ups? Match-ups and techniques.

This is a good question to ask seeing as how MKX is right around the corner. It will help us realize just how much more injustice has left to grow.

Please be completely honest because after all this is most importantly for yourself, to see what else you can do to really be playing your character at 100%

Ofcourse there are people who can get really intricate with this and that is fine but If you just want to make a guess or estimate that is completely fine too.

Categories can be stuff life ;

Adaptation

Im sure there is much much more, I wanted to make a real mathematical version for myself but I’ll make an estimated one for now just to show an example. And if anyone can find a formula that would also be great.

Combos (50%) (There are some combos like wake up arachnid trait shot schackles, some swag combos and more that I still don’t feel comfortable using in tourney but am working on it.)

Matchups (20%) I used to think I had a grasp on match-ups but after finally playing online recently and attending my first major I realized how little match-up knowledge I have. Going to my local definitely helped but you may be used to playing against a character at your local but then when facing another person using the same character they can have a completely different style with that character so please take this into account. This also pertains to adaptation but we’ll talk about that more.

Conversions (65%) Im pretty good at converting when I can but there are those akward moments or situations where you must be very well prepared to take advantage.

Corner Pressure (65%) I PRIDE MYSELF on my corner control. I play with Sinestro and he can literally lock you down in the corner and put you into an endless vortex, I feel this is really underrated with Sinestro, but I am still pushing the limits with this as it’s my favorite thing to do in the gameJ

Mix-Ups (?) I have recently been a victim of using a lot of shenanigans lately but its sort of an experiment Im having so Im not to sure what my percent is at the moment. You have to test out what shenanigans works and what characters it works against . Some characters like Sinestro don’t have real mixups but sometimes u just have to make stuff happen lol. I’ve been doing a lot of things lately like F2d13 after a J.3 after a vortex Instead of d2 because d2 leaves you negative and can be punished. You can convert with F2d1schackles also D2,trait charge Option Selects(because you can combo with d1, or b1 if they jump) just funky stuff ive been working on that I can discuss further if anyone is interested.

Adaptation (10%) I feel like my adaptation is not very good in this game. I mostly adapt after the match is over or after when I can go check out the footage and see what I did wrong. My adaptation used to be good in Street Fighter and MVC idk if its just me but Injustice just seems different, again this might just be for myself.

So Im kind of tired after typing all this but I know you guys can make better analyses for yourselves and better formats and calculations so please feel free :D

Looking forward to seeing your replies

With Martian Manhunter??? not even close, i think my zoning could get WAY better and also my mixups could be better way... and if it's even possible in injustice i want to play like an uber patient sensei.

Flash God Lord
I am one with the Flash. 100%. lol but if I'm gonna be serious I'll look at the following criteria.

Combos (85%) Things such as my BnBs with or without trait I will nail practically every time. Some of the tougher combos like MB LC ~ 1 ~ Trait ~ LK ~ etc. can be a bit tougher. I find that when I play in tournament I play terribly because I drop things that I normally wouldn't because of nerves. Even so, I still manage to execute my combos very well in tournament.

Matchups (60%?) It's hard to put a number on something like this because you never really know if you're an expert in a MU until someone does something new that you have to adapt and adjust to. I'm very comfortable playing against any of the commonly used characters but I could always learn more I'm sure.

Conversions (95%) My conversions are gawdlike. You just don't know until you play me offline lol. Even online I manage to convert things that make me giddy inside.

Corner Pressure (80%) I think I need to work a little bit more on containing my opponent in the corner and preventing them from getting away but once I have you there, you're basically dead.

Techniques (RMS?) (100%) My RMS pressure and use of RMS in the neutral game in certain MUs is gawdlike.

Mix-Ups (100%) I am the Flash God Lord of mixups.

Adaptation (60%) I think I adapt well but sometimes I think I need to adapt faster. In a tournament setting, adapting very quickly is key to success and I don't think I'm quite there yet.

I just realized that responding to this thread probably makes me look like a huge prop fisher lol but whatever. It is what it is.

Rude

You will serve me in The Netherrealm
I think i need to work more on bat management and general spacing, anti-air, match up knowledge, blocking, and patience. All in time, i guess

Joker waiting room
Combos 95%, I don't drop shit online with a Greece/US connection equalling to a grand total of maybe 8/1,5 up/down. This is all assuming I am used to the monitor, I will adapt to a monitor with more or less MS of lag but only when it comes to certain games and I will not attempt any combos that are very difficult unless the reward is really good. Thankfully, my execution is good so Joker's combos are no problem to me outside of a particular one.

Matchups 70%, I used to study matchups religiously when I thought I was going to EVO and tried to fight the best of X/Y character. I know a great deal about most matchups but would get analy soapdropped by niche characters I don't know anything about e.g Hawkgirl, Zatanna.

Conversions, depends on the game, in SF I'm horrible at converting and it results in a blocked DP so I don't go for them most of the time, in NRS games it's rare that I won't convert because it's something I plan my pressure around and the reason why I don't pre-dial all the inputs in unless I'm sure a certain outcome will occur.

Techniques (Instant Air Fire Balls) other This is just muscle memory, I have no problem with execution of this sort.

Mixups 50 if you don't respect me, 100 if you do. I will wake up with DP 3 times in a row just to hit you with a fully loaded ultra the 4th time. I disrespect anyone until they show me they can hang at my pace and playstyle OR when they have a 50-50 char the only skill in which is getting that first hit vs your opp and rolling the dice afterwards. If I'm not respected or facing a scrubby opponent who doesn't know how limiting I can be then I will rarely go for something that puts me at risk.

In SF, since the game is so button happy that you must be pressing multiple OSes at once then I start at 100, I love how people are conditioned to throw tech OS and fearing DP.

Corner Pressure 100, I happen to play characters who dominate and rely on corner game in every single fighting game I've ever played competitively, I know my shit by now.

Adaptation A year ago it used to be near 30, there was little and slow adaptation. Now it's closer to 80, I made a conscious effort to remove all nervous ticks from my gameplan and before I study opponents I study myself to see what habits I go to under which situation, how my opponents react and whether personality type A opponent is more prone to merely blocking/evading my shit rather than outright punishing it, risking an adaptation.

If there is one thing I truly suck at, it's blocking. I will do the best I can to avoid blocking shit, in IGAU I'm forced to block some stuff but in games like SF I will DP, backdash, focus backdash and other things way before I block something if I know I'm playing vs a mixup character.

Combos - 95% Doomsday isn't really reliant on combos to win, but when I have an opportunity to do them, I will. There are a few that I tend to drop due to being online, however. Like in the corner for instance: jd3~123~3~MB Earth Shake~23d1~Venom is a pain in the ass online because you have to barely back up so the 23d1 fully connects.

Matchups - 80% I'm pretty good at every MU in the game except for a few. With some more time against certain characters, I feel I'd be at 100%.

Conversions - 100% What's there to convert with Doomsday? :DOGE

Techniques - 100% There's really not much to this in regards to Doomsday.

Mixups - 100% Doomsday's mixups are pretty straight forward and are easy to do.

Corner Pressure - 100% One of the things I get complimented the most on is my corner pressure.

Adaptation - 75% It would certainly help me if I adapted better than I do. At times I adapt entirely too late and I lose because of it.

Patience - 100% I'm probably one of the most patient Doomsday players you will ever see/come across. Just ask @Mr Aquaman, @Relaxedstate, @Yoaksssss and several others that have played me a fair amount. Doomsday may be a pure rushdown character, but I make him work especially well when I decide to play patient.

>>R2 - BF4 = Unblockable.
Combos - 95%. Even online I rarely drop anything, there some things like low anti-airs to 1 MB hands that is very tough online and some BGB to B3's but other than that I land what I want mostly.

Matchups - 10%. This is my biggest weakness by far, it is so hard to get good MU experience in the UK because we have so few people playing the game. Going into training mode helps but there's nothing better than playing against someone who mains a character for experience.

Conversions - 95%. This is something I do practice as Grundy has some hard ones and pretty much anything that leads to MB hands is at least 50% damage.

Techniques (Instant Air Fire Balls) other - 75%. I still haven't got reverse input WCC down for when people jump over me. I really need to nail that to reduce the amount I get whiff punished.

Mixups - 70%. I do have some pretty good stuff with the zombie but I rarely go for it as I play against the same few people a lot so they never fall for it.

Corner Pressure - 95%. Do not let Grundy get you in the corner. He hurts, a lot!

Adaptation - 25%. Another of my main weaknesses, I tend to get mad and stop noticing stuff which in turn gets me bodied really quickly. Adaptation is something I feel goes hand in hand with matchups to a certain extent. I need to know more of the cast so I can adapt better.

Beaten, by this mere man
I know lex inside out and live how he plays, I know 99% of his tech and my specific knowledge but I am limited by my risky play style sometimes. Then again cc isn't a risk online:DOGE

Noob's saibot or noob saibot's?
damn i used to think i was hot shit but i really aint i try so much stupid shit
combos:70% i know all of grundys resets and max damage etc. but my inner tech monster makes me do stupid stuff instead of the tried and trusted
matchups:50% great at some ,ass at others
conversions:70% i like to think i convert my AA's and stuff pretty good
tech:80% pretty good but i tend to use only my tech and not stuff found by others (mainly due to muscle memory)
adaptation:60% getting better i used to suck hard at this
neutral:60% also getting better starting to use normals that will actually work at their ranges , sick of whiffing punishes that should net me like 70%

AK L0rdoftheFLY

I hatelove this game
Combos - 95%. I'm by far the best with my combos out of all NW players in match. All the combo videos people put out are cool but top damage in match took me tons of practice and I am 95% there. b3 off of reg EF is not possible @Shaazzyam (DAMIAN has better combos)

Matchups - 70%. There are some MU I am still unfamiliar with. KF, HG, and a few others but I feel decent about most MU. Damian VS Dick is a free mu for me.

Conversions - 100%. j3 wingdings isn't that hard to convert.

Techniques -80%. I spend most of my matches focusing on getting my opponent to corner and getting quick large chunks of damage. I'm damn good at it too.

Mixups - 60%. I favor the spacing game over the mixup game. My favorite mix up is baiting movement...not the 50/50.

Corner Pressure - 90%. I hurt in the corner. It is what I practice most with all my characters. NW has holes...I do not however.

Adaptation - I can adapt 75% of the time. Longer sets favor me imo.

I added these last 2

Clutch - If pig is 100% than I feel I am 80%. I play much better in tournament historically than I do in casuals. Mentality shifts, confidence, and in casuals I am testing theory 90% of the time so I am ok with a loss. I tend to play very different in tournament based on my history.
