NDC: Where Were You?

If you were one of the many ppl who picked up MK9 day 1 of its release, then pretty good chances you were one of many who thought Kabal was mediocre at best in the early days of the game, not knowing what horror he would bring later on in the form of NDC's, so I would like to hear some of u guys stories about when, and where u found out about Kabals deadly high level NDC pressure, what were your initial thoughts?, Did you get mauled by it? Did it bring u rage & salt? Did u immediately go into training mode and try to mimic it? Tell me ur experience. :)

I was playing in a koth and then randomly a dude named xXThatGuyXx420 or something like that comes in
the room and bodies me, I was like  cause I had never seen that before. I didnt know about MK forums or MK high level play.
after that I looked it up and saw my ngga onlinetony doing it too. And thats how I got familiar to the MK community.

I remeber getting bodied online by someone early on who played Kabal. I had no idea what to do and asked him how he did that and he said practice. I couldn't do high level combos at the time and figured I'd rather force the opponent to block then trying to go for big combos. I honestly think it was REO who bodied me.

We found out about the block infinite at PowerUp. Tom made a video showing how to get out of the f32 infinite, which was the only one people knew of. Oh, good lord, if only people were aware of the others back then lol.

People knew about the Sonya one, too.

I didnt pick up kabal until reos mlg days.
Even still i only work with f32 and b12 lol. I can gasblast like a mofo tho.. which is a whole different story.

The first time I came across a Kabal was in a Ranked match. At this time I had only been playing against other people for about two weeks or so, so it caught me completely off guard.

I got rekt. I just sat there looking at it thinking to myself "What the fuck am I seeing here?" What did it for me was the guy being a dick about and tea-bagging me once he got the win.

And since that day I've hated Kabal hahah

Was learning the game just getting to a level I thought was good, met some dude called Christian can't remember any of his 50 gamertags then he invited me to a KOTH which had @Mr Swizzerr in, I then preceded to get raped for the next couple of months with no answer.

I was late to the game, not a day 1 player so @Youphemism told me that Kabal was the best in the game and I didn't understand why then he showed me a raw dash cancel and an IAGB in training and I didn't understand why it made him so great. Then I looked up Kabal tournement gameplay and saw @R.E.O. just pillaging the matches with lots of mini NDC in the middle of blockstrings. I was amazed. I also thought it was a block infinite even though they had been patched so when I first tried the "block infinite" and it got d3'd out of, I was gobsmacked.

Evo.....2013. Never followed MK9 seriously, and the last time I had tuned in to the MK9 stream I heard Tom Brady complaining on the mic about Jax being a "perfect character" and how he was S+ tier and far and away the best in the game. When injustice came out I got super into it and tuned in to watch MK for the first time in forever since I had started to actually know more about who the top players in the NRS community were and I got my first taste of Kabal. Hoooooly crap.
Lol...it reminds me: one of the reasons I didn't ever really follow MK9 is that after the first EVO there was some top player who was quoted on SRK as saying that he worried MK9 had "no depth" and that things wouldn't evolve much beyond what had already been seen. While everyone was complaining about injustice and its lack of footsies I just always tried to keep that in mind.

I remember James Chen saying that. Regardless, play didnt even begin to resemble what high level ended up being til sometime in 2012...and it kept evolving until 2013 to an extent, so I'm fairly certain he was proved wrong, lol.

To answer the OP, I didn't know about it until I got bodied by Michaelangelo in casuals.

the first very good kabal i fought was @MoonSpell . it was in a online tournament 2011. he did all that ndc stuff and i thought that was an infinite (day one infinite.)
i was not happy with that so i wrote him an salty hatemail hahaha

this one put Reo on a pedestal, if i recall correctly he bodied Big D on this same tournament too, oh the days of vVv Reo and vVv CDjr
Big D's first appearance at a major was Final Round 2012, where he beat CD Jr. I don't recall him ever beating REO.

Mikemetroid

Who hired this guy, WTF?
Didnt kabal have a block infinite when the game first came out? Michelangelo went ham at ECT if I recall correctly.
While the block infinite was out I remember both Eric Warda and Michelangelo did not use it (at least at ECT)

Oh and I was at ECT3, my very first tournament, losing to Eric

EndofGameBoss

That's about right.
I can't recall my first experience against a decent Kabal, but what I do remember is how absolutely no one played him until he started doing damage at tournaments. At one point it seemed like everyone had a pocket Kabal...then a pocket Kenshi, which ultimately turned me off from the game.

STRYKIE

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
Yeah admittedly I was suffering from M2Dave syndrome if the character I was using against Kabal didn't have armor, I think by September 2011 I was like "call me back when public frame data for normals is a thing for this game"...

The funniest thing is I didn't know how to do it myself until Check posted about his time testing the game pre-release, almost a year after the game came out, I always thought it was done with F,F lol.
