When Is The Game Taken Too Far?

This is something that has been on my mind for sometime. For many we play these games & come to these FGC events to compete, hang out with like minded individuals who share the same interest, & all in all have fun. See most people realize through all of the competitiveness, salt, or other emotions shown at tournaments that at the end of it all ITS JUST A GAME & we are here to just have fun. Now in-game rivalries exist & trash talk is bound to happen at times. Hell I've got & had plenty of in-game rivals like @AK Trepound380 @SonicFox5000 @AK Harold @KDZ just to name a few. With these guys they can tell you...in-game I want them to burn in the fiery pits of hell but once the game is over we are all close friends that love to hang & have a good time.

But there are those out there that feel differently, those who basically feel that it's more than a game. Recently I've seen numerous occasions of people insulting others not just in-game but taking it to a personal level & bringing in-game beef to real life. I've seen it at times get so bad to the point that it's almost bullying toward another person.

So here is the question I have...

When is the game taken too far?

Why is it taken to a point where personal life gets mixed in with how well you do at a video game?

Because people like a good laugh at someone else's expense.

-Ra Helios, as "crazy and delusional" as he was, was blasted left and right until he was either banned or stopped posting here. (I don't know the specifics so that's all I have)
Then Reo posts that Helios is actually good despite being led to believe he was a super scrub from tym here. Now all of a sudden we all love and adore helios even if his internet connection is as bad or worse than mine.

Now when people start getting toxic with me or I don't like their attitude I just ignore them, literally and figuratively.

Final note: On tym you are judged AS A PERSON by your ability to do well in tournaments. If you go 0-2 it means you must suck in other areas of life as well.

I realize that isn't the case for ALL people here, so no need to defend yourself if that's the case. I'm just going by the general vibe I get on this site. And its not to say the site is ALL bad, because if it was I surely wouldn't stick around.

It gets too far when people start going to a personal level. Obviously breaking stuff is kinda crazy but imo thats part of the salt.

When you got people making racist comments or saying shit like "you're fat" then you know you gotta stop playing or just not talk to that person.

I think trash talk is fine too. I tell people they're bad. Its part of the competitive aspect. Like i said once you get personal then you have some problems.

Yeah its just a game. The people I've been around offline are super cool. Yourself included salt face. As far as disrespect though.... If I feel disrespected on here I'll just write someone a message and addressing it, and if that doesn't solve the issue I make a mental note for when we meet in person to handle it like men. So far that's only 1 person in my 3 years on TYM. I'm not important enough for people to have an issue with though lol. Great Topic by the way.

What is going on guys, Ya Boi Zyphox here.
i've seen it happen a bunch of times with members in the NRS community. the beef extends so far as to call each other hurtful names, and even bring in their personal lives in the conflict and it sickens me. some people get away with it because of their status. REO said it best, half the shit that some people say to each other wouldn't fly outside the FGC/gaming, remember that next time some of you decide to say hurtful shit to another person either in real life, on the forum or online in game.

It's Just when people act malicious towards another, Be it name calling, saying you suck, or other childish things. People don't understand that EVERYONE makes up the community. Little guys and top level players all make our tournaments what they are.
Luckily in my case. I have no soul, so anything malicious said to me has no effect.

When people make it personal and not so much about the game, sure people can have fun and be competitive but there's two ways to go about it being classy and being an ass. Example: ie offline OR online you play someone, you rage quit before the match is actually finished clearly poor sport. Be it a random scrub or a "big name" makes no difference to me, either way you're telling everyone you're bothered so much by losing you have to rage quit and that's seriously showing disrespect for your opponent as well as making yourself look bad like a little kid who has a tantrum for not getting his lollipop.

I'd also like to see a community going without trash talk too but I know that'll never happen. It's one reason why I feel these clan wars, etc is kind of silly to be honest. I'll admit I USED to think it was cool years ago, but then over time had a different perspective on it.

When I read the title of this thread, I instantly thought of the new game everyone is talking about:

THTB

Arez | Booya | Riu48 - Rest Easy, Friends
My question is why did it take until today, after LTG vs Viscant, for this thread to be made...?

Not to down on the OP at all, it's a damn good question. But that is definitely a huge reason for this thread, despite the other occurrences in the NRS community.
