Come On Die Young
The original or the shot-for-shot US remake? I thought the original was better in a lot of ways, the whole core story worked much better in the 97 version with the phones and stuff. Funny Games is a movie a lot of people will hate due to all the meta stuff.
The American remake. Mostly because I love Michael Pitt haha. I generally liked their potrayals better.

And yeah, I feel like a lot of people just don't get it. It's like when you talk to someone about Cabin in the Woods and they're like "it wasn't that scary". The basicness of the premise clouds what's really going on.

I hated Funny Games the first time I saw it, I thought the rewind scene ruined it. After I watched Benny's Video and Caché both also directed by Haneke I started to get it, rewatched Funny Games and I liked it a lot this time around. He makes really smart and impacting films, the ending of Caché is one of my favorite endings to a film ever.

Have you seen his version of Halloween and Halloween 2? If you did do you prefer it over the originals?
No I've only seen his The Devil's Rejects. I heard they're OK though.

Plus on block.
Horror movies have always been awful, campy, gore-y, and jump scare fests for the most part. It's easy to pick and choose outstanding horror movies from decades back because we only need to watch the best of the past but for every "Psycho" or "Exorcist" there's four times as many "Slugs" or "Edge of Hell". You get gems of every decade surrounded by a lot of shit and the modern day horror is no different: Slither, 28 Days Later, V/H/S/, The Ring, it goes on. But now that you're living in this era you're also subjected to the crap instead of just the good/great ones.
I completely agree.

Tell people the same thing about music too.

Man, that Friday the 13th Remake was perfect, I don't care what anyone says, they did everything right in that movie.

The deaths were gruesome without diving into gore-porn territory, the jump scares were respectful and well timed, the music and atmosphere was on point, Jason looked a phsycopath that had been living off of the land an mastering survival and not a hobo in a hockey mask, he actually ran, they didn't kill the black guy first, they paid homage to the originals, they didn't fuck up the origin, they nailed the tropes for the main characters.

They made him a bonafide human-hunter, not just a boogie man.

Dude was setting up traps!

It's more of a slasher-thriller than a pure horror movie.

So good.

F1 ftw.
I just remembered the name, what did you guys think about Insidious? I'm not saying it was really good or scary for that matter, but I thought the music/mood, and camera shots weren't too bad.

Has anyone seen The House of the Devil? That is a pretty recent horror movie that is kind of a throwback to 80's horror. I thought it was pretty decent. The Strangers was really f'd up and scary as well and is relatively new.

as long as studios keep making easy money with trash horror movies terrible horrors movies will still getting released
when was the last time Ive watched a movie that actually scared me? cant remember

Insidious had potential to be one of the best horror movies of this decade for the 1st 3/4th of the movie. The last part when they started introducing the fucking devil and the other world was incredibly shoddy and ruined my overall experience with the film. Part 2 sucked ass too.

They always ruin it when they take away your imagination, when they show you everything it takes the fun out of it. Plus that "demon" was incredibly stupid. "Oh I'm just gonna let you get away now...."

You guys talking about Funny Games... that one was fucked up. Director does a good job of inducing that helpless feeling. The rewind scene was brilliant. It hammered that feeling right into your mind.

Pretty nihilistic movie.

It was good for the most part, especially when he goes to the further (the other world) to get his son back and then there's this scene where a woman there shoots her family without ever showing how. All you see is their creepy faces with that grin.
Sinister is on another level of creepiness though. I don't know if you've watched it but the music while he watches the tapes goes from mellow and sweet to that absolutely horrific sound. I can link a video but I might spoil it for some.
Also, I had a good time watching Silent Hill and The Amityville Horror. Can't wait for the sequel.

There is a difference between Horror movie and Jumpscare movie. The most "horror" movies you see nowdays are just cheap ass jumpscare movies. I'll still name my favorite jumpscare movie and my favorite horror movie:

HUSK: A bunch of young people strand near a house in spooky cornfields with scarecrows running around...
(^ Fun and enjoyable jumpscare movie. It's lighthearted and has a cool atmosphere.)

FOUND: A young kid has a brother, who has heads of dead people inside his closet...
(^ THAT is a fucking HORROR movie. It's pretty much the most horrfic movie I've ever seen and I've watched A SERBIAN FILM.)

American horror has been overwhelming lackluster in the past forever years. Not to imply foreign films are masterpieces, but they generally are all better in my experience. There's been a few gems here and there, and personally I believe Grave Encounters is the best horror film to be made in the past decade in America, but I'm disappointed most of the time after I see a horror film. To clarify, Grave Encounters wasn't even that good, it had a lot of issues and the acting wasn't the greatest. This being the best American horror film, imo, in awhile speaks volumes itself.

I didn't even like The Conjuring all that much to be honest. I liked VHS way more, because it was unique and was pretty bat shit. GE2 was not too good honestly, but still better than a lot of the crap that is out there.
