F1 ftw.
Sorry, it's October and i just saw a trailer for a new movie called "Ouija", and couldn't help but say to myself, " that's probably going to be terrible." I don't know what makes them so bad nowadys, whether it be the overly used scenarios ie. girl in white pajamas gets possesed, jump scares, or really bad no name actors/actresses. Almost every scary movie I've seen in the past 5 years has been pretty terrible and not scary at all. The best horror movie I've seen more recently is "Cabin in the Woods," and that was basically a spoof of horror movies. But what do you guys think, are they as terrible as I think, or am I just being too critical?

the difference now and then is you grew up. horror movies suck. they are for kids. good fun home alone to get the spooks. they are fun but they suck.

Horror movies have always been awful, campy, gore-y, and jump scare fests for the most part. It's easy to pick and choose outstanding horror movies from decades back because we only need to watch the best of the past but for every "Psycho" or "Exorcist" there's four times as many "Slugs" or "Edge of Hell". You get gems of every decade surrounded by a lot of shit and the modern day horror is no different: Slither, 28 Days Later, V/H/S/, The Ring, it goes on. But now that you're living in this era you're also subjected to the crap instead of just the good/great ones.

xenogorgeous

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
pg-13 ..... and the fact that the best horror movies normally came from the 80 and 90 decade, where we were not yet in the hypocrite fake moralism times as we living at nowadays ..... :D

WOOLAY!!!!
VHS and VHS2 are some of the best horror films I have seen in a while. Cabin in the Woods is also a great horror film that parodies the genre and does a very good job at it. But honestly there aren't alot of "smart" horror movies that do very well because it doesn't sell. People generally want to just turn their brain off when watching splatterfilms, which sell exponentially more.

Btw I think I'm the only person who actually liked "Grave Encounters". I thought the movie was pretty well executed and the sequel, despite slow at start, picked up really well.

I watch alot of horror movies because I enjoy the genre. I'm kinda wierd lol.
I actually liked Grave Encounters. I thought it would be stupid but it's super entertaining. It's hard to call it "good", but I definitely wasn't bored.

I LOVED Grave Encounters and I hate the majority of modern horror, especially shaky cam footage which is weird because two of my favorite horror movies of the last decade are shaky cam lol. The sequel fell short for me though.

PG 13 Horror movies are pretty awful all around.

The Ring was a bill
The grudge was a bill
The others was a bill
Signs was a huge fucking bill

One of the only decent horror flicks I can think is Sixth Sense. But that's more of a thriller tbh

The Conjuring was super refreshing and played with every expectation you'd have going into it by flipping on its head. Oculus was also great because it was legitimately disturbing at some parts, faked you out on some scares, and made you wonder what was real. Those two films give me hope. Those are both legitimately good films. Sinister was pretty solid too.

Ring was good because it wasn't meant to be anything gore-y so it could get away with its PG-13 rating, Grudge was AWFUL and I will NEVER understand why people enjoy that movie.

gotta stay sharp!
horror movies are there to entertain. Not so much to be like good and smart. Idk. Like alot of horror movies have good topics but executed sooo pooorrrly. Like oujia looks like it could have potential. But chances are it will be like omg. Stupid. Like Texas chainsaw massacre(newest one). Quiet ones bored me. Save for like 3 good parts. Seems like they are just pumping out movies for quick cash and going for teens who clearly dont care how well excuted their movies are.

I thought the Conjuring was good because it actually had a well written script inside of a horror movie, which is a really rare thing to happen. The movie itself wasn't the scariest but the acting kept me watching. I'm sorta interested in Annabelle when it comes out.

Grave Encounters and Cloverfield. I also really liked V/H/S/ and didn't mind Quarantine for the most part.
I loved cloverfield but everyone i know hates it because they got sick watching it in theaters due to too much shaky cam lol. I wish they did some sort of followup.

Also, the Conjuring had potential but shat the bed with its ending. Sinister is one of the best horror movies recently.

Not at all, some classics are PG-13 or even PG (or should be) such as When a Stranger Calls and Psycho.
Let me rephrase lol, all the pg-13 gore and masked serial killer films are bad. I pretty much watch J-horror now because they are more pyschological, I suggest the film Reincarnation as a good way to start in the genre
