Ugh Bungie...Locked Content: Your thoughts?

As long as there's no on disc content that they'll want me to pay to unlock, I'm fine with it. As it is, I don't have the time to even explore what's on the disc currently.

If they plan on rolling out additional content that's already on disc over time, I'm cool with that.
I'm in the same boat man. I barely have time in the day to play and there's still so much shit I haven't done yet.

Where the hell is this coming from? Calm your shit.
This is the pattern on how these threads go.

On disc dlc content is found.

People freak out and scream cash grab and vow boycott.

Some folks don't care and the first group freaks out and accuses these sheeple of continuing the viscious cycle of on disc dlc.

In the end, nothing changes. No ones opinions are changed. The people who weren't going to buy the dlc still aren't, and the people that were going to buy the dlc still are.

This is the future of gaming. Always online, pay wall dlc on disc, content held back at launch.... It's idealistic to think anything other than a major market crash is gong to change it.

Yeah I have to side with you on this one.

We can just sit over there and enjoy the game while the others go on a witch hunt i suppose.

My buddy and I just don't have the time in the day to do everything so quickly...... so there is just plenty of things for us to do.

A gaming market crash won't stop the mobile games from being great.

The reason they make money is because they are based on a smaller version of this model. I mean.... it is a cash cow. Let someone get the bare bones version and get hooked, then charge them for stuff to make the game continue at the pace they were previously playing.
The only difference here is that I think the brain trust didn't expect everyone to get through this stuff THIS quickly. Never underestimate this generations need to finish things quickly and move on. Also never underestimate the value of "25 bucks for 2 DLC" over 60 bucks for one game.

You don't think every kid who's parents pay for their game doesn't ask for this... and when the parent see's $25 they aren't all over it? You're out of your mind if you even TRY to argue otherwise.

Even better are the parents who are smart enough to know that the game itself will cost less used by christmas time. Boom...... now they're paying 65 for both the game and DLC package.

You can't blame companies for exploiting this.

Meh, I don't care honestly.

I'm just enjoying the game and having fun.

Every big game that comes out has DLC already planned it seems. I remember about three or four months ago seeing a video on IGN about Assassins Creed Unity DLC being announced and thinking, "Wait, the game is sox months from launch and theyre already talking about DLC?"

It's bullshit but there's nothing you can do.

It's just like the people who say they aren't getting COD and then theyre the first ones in line at the midnight release.

I don't understand this whole concept of "if it's on the disk I paid for, why do I have to pay again to get all of the content?" OK I worded that badly but you get the idea. On disk dlc is a delivery method and nothing more. It's the same as buying MK9 and bitching because Qcan Chi and Cyber Sub were locked (and people did).

On disk dlc is no different than "true dlc" except that it will most likely run smoother with less glitches due to the CPU not having to look in multiple places at once to stream the game information.

At the end of the day, if the content was earmarked to be dlc, on disk or not, we are not entitled to have it until the company allows us to access it. If you want to play CEO and complain that this encourages companies to release incomplete games, you're partly right. The problem isn't on disk dlc though. It's dlc period mixed with horrendous r$d times/expenditures. Companies need to release sooner than maybe we would like with less content than we might want simply because they need monies to "finish the game".

If it's on the disk it means they finished it before they came out.

On disc DLC was already paid for in creation by their budget based on expectation of original sales. Basically, they are making you pay for something you've already paid for.

The general rule is the development costs for doing DLC should covered from selling that DLC.

Instead, even if you didn't buy this DLC and didn't benefit from having any of it- it was created on your money. It's pretty anti-consumer. We should get what we pay for.

This includes Goro. I'm not going to pre-order for this character. NRS is making him with money budgeted based on sales expectations, so every person who buys it new should automatically have that character.

Destiny was in development for something like 5 years.

My issue is not the fact that shit is on the disc that is locked (even though I don't particularly like that), it's the fact that there is almost no content available in the damn game.

I'm already 29 and a half and have done everything there is to do in this game and after seeing this it just makes my decision easier. I'm selling this and getting borderlands when it comes out. I was more hype than anyone I know for this game and I've never been more disappointed.

People here were OK with them locking content on disc for MK9 and now Goro from MKX. So most will be fine with this as well. The general consumer is a moron.

What is everyone's feelings on this? I personally cannot stand when companies do this and it makes me never want to buy their DLC.

What content was locked on MK9?

The costumes? If so, that doesn't change anything within the game other than appearances.

I really hope the bad press for Destiny gets more people hyped for Borderlands Pre-Sequal.

If anything good came from Destiny, it was a way to ease people into a more deep class and loot system. Basically like "Hey, do you like Destiny? Wish you could get an interesting gun more than once a millenia? Here ya go!"

The thing I find funny is alot of you found their demo good enough to make this game a must have, lol it was fun to an extent but it was never gonna last long.

Why do people have no problem buying expansion packs for MMOs and other games, but when its DLC it becomes a problem?

Is it the fact that its already on disk?

As long as the DLC adds enough content, i have no problem paying the money. Especially if im paying for additions and not things you NEED.

On-disc content that is unlocked via pre-order is a completely different (and somewhat less scandalous) practice. This is an entirely different animal.

Surrendering to "industry standards" is how we got here in the first place. When Microsoft shat in their customers mouths over crooked used games and kinect, the customers fought back and they won. Turning a blind eye is only ensuring the next incarnation will be worse.
