Question Cyrax combo starter help

I've come to a point where I can execute combos(60-75%:tonyt) perfectly if I manage to get the combo started ie; net.

Today I played against a friend, he was noob saibot, I basically never could land a net, if I try to do a JIP, he does he shadow kick. It seemed like he had an answer for everything I did and I just couldn't manage to start any combos off.:(

I kept losing and losing because I couldn't open him up, it sucks even more to know that if you land that combo you would have won easy.:confused:

My question is; As Cyrax, how do you open somebody up to start doing combo? I know you can do 2,1~net, 1,2~net etc. But what's the best way to do it? I could never safely do it today. I've read that d4 hitconfirms into 1,2,1 ragdoll/aa, however everytime i do it, it never connects, i have to dash and allot of times they already blocked by that point. What am I doing wrong?

I main noob. I know this is off topic a.little but get about medium distance to him. Why? Because the net will trade with his clones. Which will grant you a reset etc. Also stop trying to jump in. Jumping in less=Better play.
Also keep doing that d4 setup. Practice it if you need too offline. Also if there just blocking everything, use his command grab. If you play Xbox we can practice on it.

Like you said, use d4's they basically grant you a free 121 blockstring. You can dash in and command grab after a d4 as well, just to open him up.

If you jump like an idiot you'll get shouldered all day, try dash more and bait shoulder to whiff so u can get a free net, also use your bombs!

Oh, sweet yeah I noticed the net trading with the clones, but I was always far, so couldn't have converted it into anything, good tip!:)
Do you meaning jumping in in general? Or against noob specifically? Is that extra damage not worth the risk?
I will practice that d4 setup, does 1,2,1 connect directly off of it?

I only have MK for pc btw.

So basically you can count d4, as a combo starter since it goes into 1,2,1 and 1,2 goes into everything....right?

Cyrax's D4 (not counting Sonya's when cancelled into Military stance) grants the most hitstun of any D4 in the game. From there, you essentially have a 50/50 between standing 1 and the command grab. Since you have to let go of block to tech grabs, it leaves your opponent open for a BNB and given that the command grab itself looks exactly like a jab on startup, they have to guess which one you go for.

That extra damage isnt worth the risk. The jip(Jump in punch) adds 4%. So either get a risky 70% combo/reset. Or 66%Reset thats safe.
Also if you learn to AA(Anti air) you play way better. But if you need any more noob, Skarlet, kitana, cage, jade tips im here so hmu :)

When I'm playing against noob I try to stay around jump punch range (a little less than mid screen) and I then go for a jump punch only after jumping his shadow on reaction. Or you can trade net. Even if you get a net from full screen why can't you convert it? You can tele and go into 12 ex bomb reset. When you're in you can go for command grab and just pressure till you open him up.

Okay, so I pretty much mastered the d4 into 50/50. Now I'm wondering what other openings are there?? Thanks in advance

Don't neglect deep jump kicks for advantage on block.

If you end reset combos in a hanging net, teleport then jump over them into a deep jump kick it times it so that they have to take the kick, if they block your at big advantage, if it hits you can string it into like 1 1 1 121 bomb for pressure etc

I'm not a Cyrax main so don't take my absolute word for it, while there are other options, they're rather gimmicky and you risk ending your pressure. I suppose you can try throwing in U4 now and again, which is a safe overhead with tons of advantage, so you can keep your opponent honest with a free mid-bomb setup, but it all depends on the specific character's wake up options.

The best next step would be to explore Cyrax's corner game, which gives him access to significantly more setups, 212 on hit grants a free OTG, EX buzzsaw can be used as a combo starter, and you can even use resets without using any meter for anywhere between 50%-70% damage. I would direct you to footage of these examples but sadly the Cyrax forums are extremely unorganized lol. I'll get back to you if I do find them.

@Plamatonto D4 is not a combo starter and does not technically hit confirm into anything. Pokes are not combo starters in MK9 since they don't link and everything after them can be blocked. I think you misunderstood when you read that D4 grants you a free 121 string. If your D4 hits, it has enough frame advantage to give you a block string. Your opponent can block. However, what people mean by that is, unless it's a max range D4, your opponent HAS to block the subsequent string because they're at a large frame disadvantage. If they don't, they'll eat a combo.

Practice hit confirming 12 into net in case your opponent decides to press buttons after a D4 on hit, and you notice him always blocking, mix things up by going for command grab after a D4 on hit, which grants you a safe jump.

What you can also do is cancel D4 into either buzz saw or EX ragdoll for a 50/50. This is not interruptible and the opponent has to guess. It does not matter whether the D4 is blocked or not.

Also, I know it's tempting to fish for combos given the huge reward with Cyrax, but this is a bad habit. Don't jump around or throw lots of random nets just desperately wanting to catch your opponent with that potentially round-ending combo. Be patient, know your spacing, use Cyrax's D4 a lot, learn how to pressure with him since he's terrifying up close, and practice hit confirming off of raw strings without a JIP (so basically practice hit confirming into net after 2 hits only). Also, know that Cyrax's 334 and F2 are frame-traps and have their uses.

Against Noob in particular, don't mindlessly throw too many bombs because you'll eat shadow clones. As someone mentioned, you want to get into that mid range where Noob has to be wary of the net threat (since it will trade) while simultaneously putting yourself at a close enough distance where you can dash in and D4 into pressure. Also, another Noob match-up specific advice I would give you is, if you knock him down and you're close enough to him to pressure on wake-up, try throwing a raw net as he's getting back up. It will trade with all of his wake-ups except teleport, but that just means the risk-reward is largely in your favor. A lot of Noob players like to wake-up with shadow upknee, so take a small step back just outside its range and throw a raw net. If your opponent wakes up with either of his two shadow projectiles, the net will trade (you'll get hit but catch them with the net. Just teleport on wake-up and land your combo). This is especially useful in the corner.
