Help ya boi learn some Street Fighter

Insuperable

I am currently working on Ultra Street Fighter and I am looking on help in improving. This is what I have with ~15 minutes in the lab with Evil Ryu.

What I'm looking for are general tips on Street Fighter throughout the yung journey.

Well, your combo there is pretty stellar (way better than my combos, lol), but can you footsie?

Really, footsies are, IMO, more important.

My footsies are improving, but I am awful at them at the moment. I used to fish for the cr LK fireball combo way too much, even while I was being pressured, but I've been working on crLP crLP crMP fireball FADC sHP mRyusokyaku crMP lTatsumaki Shoryuken

My Shoryuken reaction timing for jump ins are decent, and my spacing is okay.

I have absolutely no idea how to deal with pressure and my FADC vs fireballs is really lacking.

footsies are the most important thing in usf4 imo, with delay wakeup there's no more stupid vortex/setup.

Yeah no, Chun-Li df+HK wake-up guessing games are still one of my favourite tactics lol. :p

Seriously though, as long as you can remember the exact range of every single move your character has, you're off to an incredibly good start. The amount of times I've managed to land Chun-Li's s.MP, s.HP and c.MP because it hit just a little further than my opponent expected it too... :D

They still exist. Just requires the player to actually make a read instead of just going for it.
like i said at least setups are not as stupid as AE2012.
thank god i don't have to deal with akuma's and cammy's vortex when she backthrows me lol, they're fucking stupid.

One of the most important things you need as a beginner is the "crouch tech". Its an option select that will tech throws & stop pressure, frame traps, etc. It's performed by holding down back + LP+LK (crouch black and throw simultaneously).

Also if you using a Shoto you'll need to learn how to perform a "Deep Dragon Punch" or a crouching DP. It helps take advantage of invincible frames to avoid trades when you go for AA. the command is df,d,df + MP or HP. LP dragon punch doesnt have many invincible frames and is more than likely to trade regardless.

Your combo seems pretty good. I don't know much about Evil Ryu tbh. But it's good enough for sure.

Make sure you also practice the cr.mk xx hadoken > FADC combos and the red focus into Ultra since that's the core of his game.

Next after getting your BnB combos down, I would suggest practicing throw teching. To practice this, record the dummy doing sweep then doing a meaty throw or cr.jab, tick throw. Then play back and try to crouch tech and stand tech.

Next I would practice my anti-airs, some basic blockstrings and maybe a couple of decent frame traps/counter hit setups.

Then maybe find a couple of safe jumps and oki setups but this is not entirely needed. Especially because of delayed wake up.

And of course make sure you check out at least a couple of PR Balrog and Sakonoko video/streams using Evil Ryu. They will give you a good idea of how to approach certain matchups. Plus show you some good setups and tricks you can add to your game aka steal their strats.

I would also suggest to anyone who wants to get into SF to check out Vesper Arcade on youtube:

He has everything from beginner to really advanced tactics. Same with UltraChenTV.

First Attack covers a lot of things from super low level, to intermediate and sometimes high level stuff like safe jumps, option-selects and whiff punishing:

And Level 3 Focus is mostly for match analysis and fighting game philosophy/theories. (I can't find a playlist for it but they're on youtube for sure).

EDIT: Almost forgot about Xian Academy:

Well, this is a bit of a shoddily-made program, but it's functional and popular... But enough about Street Fighter- here's a nicely made piece of software that will help with the ridiculously strict combo-timing:

Link to the download is in the description. You need the PC version of 1-frame-link Fighter in order to use it properly though.

A couple of great videos I suggest people to watch: (even those who think are already pretty good at SF or footsies must watch these if they haven't already)

Okay, I've been working on some execution stuff and came up with this
I only have Ultra for PC and AE for PS3. I'm only bringing my PS3 to my dorm. Would AE be a good substitute for Street Fighter practice, or should I just keep to practice mode?

you can fadc hit confirm a light axe kick from low forward also... its much stricter

That is irrelevant because you're not really hitconfirming it. cr mk into light axe kick is used as a whiff punisher, not a hit confirm, reason being that you can get much more damage instead of whiff punishing with cr mk hadoken
