Something I think that should be changed from the Injustice to MKX change over is the relevence of a throw to a specific character, for example, MK9 Kung Lao had a fitting throw (basically the same as WoWo in Injustice). KL left them right infront of him and basically gave him a free F2.

In Injustice WoWos throw looks the same, but throws them completely across the screen. Throws are to break blocks, but you should be rewarded more for landing one since 1. They're relatively easy to tech and 2. They do low damage.

Isnt that what MB Throws in MXK are for? Giving you some kind of advantage?

Honestly I feel like anti-airing in Injustice was majorly improved on from MK9, jumps were WAY too close to the ground. You barely, if at all, could anti-air an opponent jumping over you. They were way too close and it simply wasn't fun to play against. Playing Batgirl makes anti-airing a lot easier because of Flying Bat and I'm so glad, because I can at least anti-air them at all...

Also armour should be one hit like with MB b3/f3, and should only be distributed to characters/variations with generally slower and unsafe moves. Sonyas cartwheel for example in MK9 was completely unnecesary as it's -3 anyway yet had several hits of armour, but something slower and more unsafe like Rains roundhouse though slightly excessive in the amount of hits of armour was at least unsafe iirc. This is what should be replicated if anything.

I've seen it mentioned but I dont think I've spotted it in gameplay. You shouldn't have to spend meter to gain something from a throw though, really.

1. Yeah but that's riskier though because if they hit the hurtbox of your normal then that's full combo to them. More AAs in Injustice have a big outward-reaching circular hitbox so it's harder to actually hit the opponent whereas AA normals in MK9 may as well be trex arms in comparison... And what about in the corner though? In MK9 I get knocked down into the corner and the opponent jumps over me. I have to stand there and take the chip damage because their jump arc is way too close to me to be able to anti air them effectively.
2. Ah ok I didn't realise roundhouse was -3, but they both still had way too much armour on them. The damage difference is negligible since they both lead to low-mid 40s in damage. Or are you trying to say Rain is top tier? :DOGE
3. How? You have a lot more space to work with because jump arcs are higher and it's easier to react to/punish in Injustice, at least in my opinion...

Fair enough... I know how to beat doomsday down and i am not saying he is top tier, i just feel like his playstyle is overly simplistic and generic and his playstyle forces you to just block and guess (even if the guessing game sometimes is in your favor), and it really makes the game an incomplete experience in general. It's just an overall awful character design. I don't feel the same way about fei long, or seth anymore even... Yun is pretty cheap however.
I guess this is the logical divide. The character you're describing (block and guess or die) literally exists in almost every fighter every made, certainly most recent ones, and he's usually top tier. SF gets away with it because it has retarded reversals and crouch tech.

if CoD is competitively successful how can it be a bad competitive game?
Halo will always fundamentally be a better team shooter than CoD simply because they have more symmetrical maps and more health/balanced guns/weapon control. It takes more focused teamwork, less luck more individual skill to play, even at a basic level.

CoD is a cashcow that everybody plays, so if you can squeeze out some semi-decent competitive gametypes and maps you can milk the competitive scene. Same applies to Marvel.

I guess that is why the more i play fighting games the more they discourage me as a competitive genre because in reality that type of playstyle really turns me off. I am starting to think shooters and RTS are more for me.

There is nothing wrong with Doomsday's design. I don't care how "footsies based" a game is, there will always be situations where you have to make reads. Times where you assess your best options vs. theirs and make a choice or rather, an educated guess. Even Chess has educated guessing, because you're trying to logic out what your opponent will do and what their options are to shut down your actions. This is a gaming fundamental.

I think I'll prefer not to see some character being able to lock out another one with just throwing IAFBs and/or something grounded to the same effect. It probably won't affect me that much and I'll still play the game regardless of that, but I don't like the idea of watching likes of those high level Cyrax vs Kabal or Kitana or whatnot where players actually only get to play in the corner before switching sides when all tedium repeats again.
 
Well this topic is one big ball of wtf, but whatever.

To tread new ground: I would really like it if they actually buffed the low tiers. I don't pick low tiers on purpose, i'm a loyalist, not some low tier warrior. I just have a 6th sense when it comes to finding trash or something, and often, they stay that way for far too long.

While we're at it, could we get one fucking game where "start, reset" or "enter a kombat kode" isn't the fucking fastest way to get a rematch. I love their attention to detail and hype fatalities and cool win animations but fucking hell, a "fast rematch/counterpick" option in the options would go a LONG way.

I thought IGAU kinda did that, aside from victory animations some people wanted to be skip-able.

I guess, but seeing pro's "pause, character select" on the last hit at big tournaments feels....janky? We've had competitive communities for years now, and everyone knows that when it comes to tournies, hype is cool and all, but so is getting shit done quick is important too, especially when the workaround for your long/draw out match finishes, means less hype.

All skill goes out the window when you leave a player in the situation of flipping a coin to guess so yeh vortex's are pretty stupid. (high risk high reward)

Cyrax's combo's where pretty much a reward for meter and if you got half the combo done without the other player breaking then your lucky.

Sonya is pretty easy to bait out & you can get around the hit-box of the cartwheel.

I agree, instant air zoning, is monotonous and uninteresting for both parties, in mk9 it wasn't as bad as what zod cna do to some chars due to dash block, but effective zoners should be more interesting in general. Instant air projectiles should be used as a read/reaction to a jump and nothing more
 
What things will make you play or quit this game? What things will severely disappoint you and deter you from playing it competitively or make you play it for a long time?

Most important: Lack of anti-air ability... no anti-airs = no spacing = bad game

1. Safe fifty/fifty vortexes: these are the most braindead form of fighting
2. Anything like earthshaker
3. Anything like doomsday's shoulder charge or martian's tp or killer frosts slide
4. Massive damage resets I.E. smoke or cyrax: this rewards people too heavily and fraud players
5. Safe teleports: I.E. someone suggested to me raiden's tp be safe and i got angry as fuck
6. Safe armor: such as sonya's cartwheel.... the only characters who really deserve armor are brute-type characters like ferra torr.... not characters that are mobile rushdown chars.


If this game rewards scrubby players in the long run i might give up. Injustice is its own broken game but its a handicap game. I want footsies. I want a game where players like woundcowboy and dab will beat you 50 times in a row if they are better than you because the game rewards the smarter player. I am assuming this is extremely wishful thinking.
you know what, we are playing the wrong games haha. lets play GG Xrd maingame and MKX as a second fun game. that sounds pretty good actually.
i expect that gg xrd will be the best competitive 2d fighting game of all times.

Only a few things bug me. I hate the timing on the wake ups in injustice! Other things include really fast recovery on projectiles, batgirl and zod... Lol
