What's new

I hate king of the hill but everybody plays it.

seriously, i just wanna play like ft 10s/20s or more to level up. but everybody with a half decent record mostly plays KOTH. whats the point of waiting ages to play a super laggy match and it might even be the only one before you have to wait for ages again? or to be the one good player on top who slaughters myriads of beginners? im glad its not gonna be in mkx in ist current form.

I play KOTH as a sort of way of "evangelizing" Lex.

I love the attention you get when you win a game with Lex in front of everyone- because it's a character they don't see often... makes me feel like I'm actually good at this game even though the lobbies are filled with players who don't know what they're doing.

"Oh my god! A Lex player! Duuuude, you're like a freaking unicorn!!!!"

The reason why most people with good records play KOTH is because those people get in KOTH that are filled with noobs. If you want to play a good player in ft10 or ft20 than just ask around on this site

Some folks might just play KOTH because they have several friends in the room with mics? Sound logical?

Gameplay... Koth blows. But.. If you've got 5,6,7 or 8 guys in one room that you're friends with. It can be a great way to spectate and learn.

It has it's pro's and cons. Just depends on the situation.

We had RM KOTHs in MK9 almost daily. Yet.. We still had our fair share of 1v's...

We have Koth's all the time in STB and, for the most part (until @STB Shujinkydink or @knoterror dominates the room with stupid, broken, OP characters :p), it's a fun time for all.

Don't play Koth in lobbies... that's where your mistake is lol

Also, 3-4 man koths are the best way to koth imo. You get to watch and learn for a couple games and you dont have to wait ages for your next turn, win/win

People play KOTH because they want to record you without your knowledge. They want to spy on your strategy or they want YouTube views based upon your claim 2 fame. Usually both.

i just get bored playing against the same people all the time :) ill just as easily watch two good players play than play myself

The only time I play it is if there is decent competition in the lobby, and if I have stuff small stuff I might need to do around the house which if I lose, I can go do them for ten minutes or so until I get back into the king match. Otherwise, I have a lot of problems with the KOTH system.

The lobby interface has some downfalls. When you become king, whichever menu tab you were last looking at on the right hand side, (players, stats, or chat) is the only one you can look at until you either lose or everyone leaves the lobby. So if you happen to be looking at the chat and then you get put into the king match and win, then you can never again which person comes or leaves the lobby until you lose or everyone leaves. Or in some instances, if it is on the players tab when I become king, people are sending chat messages and I want to see what people are writing...and maybe even respond if they are talking some smack!

I don't like how you can be the king for awhile, but if you want to leave the lobby, you have to take a loss unless everyone else leaves first. Lets say you win 20 straight games in KOTH, and are getting bored of the competition in the lobby, but in order to leave you have to take a loss. I just feel like the king shouldn't be required to take a loss once they win 5 or so matches.

Ultimately, the lag is the biggest issue. nearly every time a new person joins the lobby or leaves the lobby, the match will lag. This is just very annoying.

In terms of competition level in KOTH, I think the best thing to is join a room. and scroll down the list of people in the room to see who is playing KOTH. It is nice to see how many people are in the lobby and which people are in the lobby (including their 1v1 record and player score) and pick the lobby which is suitable for for your desired competition level.

I go into KOTH lobbies a lot just to see if I can knock off the person that's king. If I lose against them I just leave and go back to player matches because I'm not about to wait 3 hours just to play one more match.

KOTH is great if you have friends that play the game and also I like to jump in (before I stopped playing) to watch people go at it and see how ppl play different chars. You can actually learn alot from it that is if you don't join with a bunch of scrubs.
And what about those "Scrubs" that also would like to learn?

I have no problem with KOTH being a feature since a lot of people play it, but there's no way in fucking hell you're getting me to play it. The additional lag doesn't really help.
