Why you should play other fighting games?

An educated player can easely excel in any fighting game he dedicates himself to if he knows how what to look for, in todays times is hard to find a complete or composed well rounded educated player.

There is some ppl that can't even see or explore the archtype of character, can't see the depth and playstyles, these players play every fighting game exactly the same way and expect to succeed. This is wrong.

Play other fighting games, embrace them, almost every fighting game at very high level is a totaly different thing, yet some of the same concepts still does applies to a game either is back to block or block button. You gain a lot by understand in general how fighting games do work.

I play Mk, SF, marvel, VF, Tekken, and played lots of Arcade fighting games in the past like Samurai, Last Blade series, Karnov, Ninja Masters, and much, most of todays players don't have much background in FGs ones only stick with MK, others only with SF or Tekken, when they see something being brought to they system starts to alienate it when they actually don't understand the concept of it.

I was trying to educate a certain MK player to SF, but just because the combos system is based on Links and loops, he imediately alienated the game because we were doing the same things over and over. I felt actually sad, such a simple mechanic yet he completely choose to not like it, or understand a bit, because he isn't much of a SF player, how the hell he will play other fighting games or better yet, how will he become a better player if he can't develop general fighting games fundamentals?

And then when a certain player holds dominance in tournament, the first ones to suffer are the characters, they get nerfed, others are not fully explored, that is why most of the times we see characters nerfed for no reason, or because it was miss judged.

Characters placed as top 10 because won major, or characters that are potentialy top 10 being negleted because no one ever got top 8 or won anything with it.

Links =/= fundamentals though.
I don't like the link system in SF, I can create so many opportunities for damage by using basic universal concepts, but get denied because I can't link 100% of the time.

That is not the point, he saw the combo system being predermined by links and failed to see the general concept of the game, spacing, zoning etc etc. Even if a few of us who played the game was understanding what was happening.

It develops your ability to break down a game and figure our how to take advantage of the games rules.

It expands your understanding of footsies and your mental composure when playing.

It broadens your execution

It makes watching more games at tournaments more enjoyable

It helps your recognition of general setups and common strategy

I took the last year to learn SF, UMVC3, marvel, KI, and a little bit of Kof/SFxT/SC and it broadened my understanding of fighting games tremendously.

I recommend it to everyone if you have the time to take away from training your main game.
