What's new

Would you like MKX to have a Trials mode ?

I think there should be two sections:

Normal:
Teaches you basic, practical combos that are good for someone new to a character

Advanced:
High damage, not practical combo challenges

Also hoping to see something like what KI has with Dojo mode--would be cool if you could pick your character and kind of go through a basics of how to use them. A lot to ask, but I think it would make picking the game up for new comers a heck of lot easier, which would hopefully grow the competitive scene for it.

Hmm could work, though NRS did put the tutorial modes and practice modes in MK 9 and Injustice. I'm sure they'll be back, and with some newer modes, updated, better.

I kind of saw Injustice's survivor mode as in a way trials, cause you didn't regain health.

And MK 4 actually the only MK to have an endurance/trails/survivor mode, where you had to face everyone one ONE healthbar...crazy

Nah, I like figuring out combos myself in NRS games. They are relatively simple for me to understand compared to links and stuff. I've always been a "juggle fighter" kind of player, used to play Tekken and MK growing up.

I remember when the DLC for Kenshi came out in MK9 and I firgured out his optimal bread and butter within like... 30 minutes. It's too fun figuring out combos for me to enjoy a trial mode in MK games.

Challenge tower stuff, and the side game missions in injustice are goofy and somewhat entertaining but a Sf style combo trials mode would be much better imo. Maybe have both?

Also, I forgot about this cause it's been so long since unlocking things in Mk9, remember the krypt? The hundreds of things to unlock and dig up and open? That was good fun.

I fucking love trials... do it like this NRS:
Is it sad I actually really enjoyed that game? Love the trials mode in that game. I wouldn't mind an HD remake of EX and maybe they can speed it up a bit i forgot how slow this was after watching that video.

I do like the KI trials but it was only for jago, however it was done good. I can imagine NRS they would go through a lot to program every version of each character in any trials mode. Honestly though I fully agree I would prefer EX trial mode like this in MKX.

Eh I don't know about "goofy" I think it's rather original and tests some of your skills in those modes, while entertaining. SF's while effective is just typical, dull "trials mode" One thing with MK CT and Injustice's missions they MADE you do certain combos at times which was great practice honestly....it was also a pain in the ass(Injustice's especially)

Depends on how strict the execution is in MKX.

In SF4, I like it because of how fucking annoying the combos are. Gives you a better idea what you can do while easing you into Focus canceling combos.

My blood pressure is going up just thinking about those 1 frame links.
Lol, buy a stick

I have the SF4 tournament edition stick. I'm actually better with the MadCatz gamepad. I could do most of the trials, but in the heat of the moment I can't pull most of that shit off. I'm a target combo kind of guy.
Play ibuki then :p

Try chun li's trials, and see if that is hard lolz

A real tutorial mode (KI, Skullgirls) would be much better.

One of the worst things about SF4 is the lack of one and substitution of random combos, not all of them practical, with little assistance on actually teaching how to do them.

Trial mode does nothing for new comers, it's only for experienced players to challenge themselves on their execution skills, hence the name.
What he said!

i main decapre in sf4 so i kinda had to go off of cammy stuff and also figure things out on my own, then again some informative for newcomers would be nice.. THEN AGAIN how long did it take to figure things out by ourselves on mk9?

trials should teach us how to use a character, bnbs, punishment (whiff and block) and teach frametraps etc. like the Killer Instinct trials which were some of the best in terms of learning to play a game

Such things should be updated as game evolves. Now imagine NRS doing that :p

Anyways, I agree with the guy who said that we need proper tutorial SG-style more. Combo challenges wouldn't hurt though.

I'd also prefer other features like spectator mode (including online tournament promotions) and replay support over that, but those are different things entirely.

In my opinion, trials don't last the test of time as the game gets more and more fleshed out.

KI has set the bar as far as tutorial's go. It teaches concepts more than specific input memorization. I would do something along the lines of that.

With a D-pad? Lol
There are pros that use gamepad. I'm just more comfortable with it. Plus, the stick is annoyingly loud making it impossible to use late at night without my neighbors complaining. I live in an apartment complex with think walls.

The standard xbox control D Pad is trash but the Mad Catz one is nice. I can pull off the important BnB combos with Sakura and I mostly poke with Vega so I'm good. ibuki is fun but my damage output is better with Sakura.

As long as I'm consistently pulling off jump hP, s. HP L. Shinpuka, cr. HP L. Shinpuka, s. LK ex. Shinpuka I'm happy.

Regardless, I don't think many people would argue that SF has way less forgiving execution than MK. I rarely ever drop combos in any MK unless it's lagging.

Fuck efficacy, I'm all about flash and style.

Sorry for the quality. iPhone video. Also, I'm now realizing this has nothing at all to do with this topic but the squirrels won't let me stop.
