The Inevitable Hype Killing Guest Character

Ok, man. I anxiously await the super obscure character NRS puts in the game because the developers are really into him/her instead of someone like Jason Vorhees, for example. Guest character DLCs are put in the game to make money. No other reason. I don't blame them for that, at all.
I don't know how "not based on mainstream" translates to "super obscure" to you. There's a huge divide between Bravoman and Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't think anyone in this thread is suggesting Bravoman or Master Higgins.

Okay.

I'm going to steer away from arguing with someone who doesn't understand that companies decide their priced DLC/guest characters in a way that maximizes profit more than any other factor.

It varies depending on the company, but no company decides to make DLC unless they think it will make them some money.

They don't go "We all like this character, lets put our valuable and limited resources into creating an extra downloadable character just because we like it, who cares if people buy it or not, who needs money to run a company anyway?"

They go "We like this character, we think a lot of people also like this character, I think if we put them in our game we'd appeal to a large audience and provide a cool addition to our roster and in doing so, make some serious money off of it"

Thinking that them making money isn't a top, if not thee top priority is just some silly ass, looney tune shit.

Them liking the character or not, or wanting to make fans happy are definite factors, but they don't override making profit when it comes to using money and time and things like that to make extra content for a released game.

If profit and popularity were all that mattered every character would be a guest and the dlc would be Mario, Darth Vader, Wolverine, Twilight Sparkle and Michelle Obama. If you don't think human opinion/desire factor into the equation at all, its no wonder you're both always wrong with your cast predictions. Have fun being wrong using logical gymnastics to explain this next one.

Except....no Mortal Kombat fans would buy that game. Your argument is absurd.

Human opinion/desire ARE a factor. That's why Freddy was in MK!!!! Are you even reading what we're saying?!?

We're saying popularity matters, but profit matters more.

And it would cost a lot to buy the rights to use a lot of huge name characters for any game, added to the fact that making DLC is costly in itself.

That's why we get so few guest characters in any game that has guest characters outside of party games like Smash or PS Allstars.

Those limitations are also why it's so important to pick a character(s) that will sell, since making the wrong choice would cost more money that it's worth.

Hence why they pick big names that wouldn't be unrealistically expensive to add, that will also sell well, like Kratos, or Freddy, or Scorpion.

You talk about the cyborg being better then the knights, but you don't take into the account that some of those knight were probably shitting on the other knights as hard as the cyborg is.

Or to simplify, Freddy and Scorpion may have been great when they were first released, but fucking Superman, Aquaman, Batman, Deathstroke, Kung Lao, Kenshi, Kabal, and Cyrax were already running shit before they showed up.

Balance can't be used as an argument against them if the game they're put in already is unbalanced at the time of their release/reveal.

And people would buy that cyborg up, because it would be something different and interesting, were you trying to say that people wouldn't buy a cyborg for a medival fighting game because of something as flimsy as aesthetics?

And again, I know for a fact, no matter who you are, if a character that can fight and/or kill that you love or care deeply about is revealed to be the guest character, any one complaining about guest characters would switch sides in a hurry.

Wether they openly admit it or not.
What I said has NOTHING to do with balance, lol!
Don't be silly, a fucking axe could be far superior than a lazergun in the world of fighting games just switch a few frames here and there.......

It was a joke because Cyborg is one of the worst characters in Injustice and the joke being in order to make him top tier he has to fight characters with FAR inferior weapons and technology.

But my point was he DOESN'T fit in with the rest of the characters LORE and AESTHETIC wise! How could you miss that? :D

Maybe you don't see anything wrong with, AGAIN LORE AND AESTHETIC WISE, cavemen fighting with sticks and stones and suddenly there's this one and only robot character who has rockets and lazers and shit? :)

I mean I know damn well why NRS do this type of things with there guest characters, it's a all about that cream. But that doesn't change the fact that I, and others, has the right to disagree as fans.

Your aesthetics argument doesn't really apply to a game series with Lizard warriors, ninjas, a fire spewing hell-wraith, centaurs, dragon people, thunder gods, cyber ninjas, a black guy with metal arms, an Australian illegal arms dealer with a robot eye, a multi-dimensional death tournament, Aztec gods, blade armed sharp toothed mutant people, giant four armed dragon and tiger people, Meat, Mokap, Khameleon, a Kung-Fu man with a razor hat, a guy made out of hundreds of souls, ice ninjas, smoke ninjas, rain ninjas, literally just a regular cop, burnt man with super speed and hook swords, a bug lady, an ogre with a wrecking ball, a fat drunk that throws up to attack, a movie star, and Hsu Hao.

You're telling me that with all of that stupid bullshit up there, a burned guy with nightmare powers, and a god who kills other gods would really upset some kind of theme or flow?

I could see if this were just a game about ninjas, and someone like Kratos jumped in, but MK is so god damned silly at this point, he doesn't even stand out compared to some of the characters in the lore.

You guys are acting like they put Tigger in the a game or something.

The put two violent killers with cool weapons in a game about violent killers with cool weapons.

DC universe already has hellspawn from demon dimensions, so Scorpion wasn't even remotely far fetched or unexplainable.

Fingers crossed for a mutant turtle of the teen-age variety. I'm sure they could come up with enough variety between the 4 of them to make 3 variations.

Would still be shit...but the least offensive shit I could think of :-P

Turtle Power!
PLEASE!
