The option to turn Fatalities off

Ninj

Where art thou, MKX Skarlet?
@STORMS completely reasonable request. I agree, we all knew it would get to this point with hyperrealistic graphics and NRS being NRS pushing the limits of purely evil ways to kill somebody with their characters. I don't particularly care for the fatalities at this moment either, but I'm not one who loves gore. Skarlet's throat-slash fatality, for me, was bad enough. I can't imagine what all the fatlities will be and yeah they put me off a little bit.

Under no circumstance ever would I want a child to see these fatalities - there simply isn't a good reason for it. You can Tough Guy it up all you want and give excuses for letting kids watch them but there's no benefit to being exposed to gruesome violence at a young age. Especially for any empathetic children out there - the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes can make extreme gore like this very difficult and it could be argued traumatizing in one way or another. Just in case we have extremists in the thread: I'm not saying it would induce PTSD, but it certainly would not be beneficial for that person's mind.

Anyways...a fine request and I agree.

@TheSpore,
Dude, I have kids, well kid. I understand how it works. Your entire post is my point in a nutshell. Kids are going to get into your shit, the end. You can make an extreme example like guns or drugs, or you can make a simple example like the stash of cookies or gummy worms. The point is the best way to keep them out of it is to not have it. Period.

And if that means you don't get to buy the new MKX game, so be it, go buy some other game he can watch or even play it with you or at least one that won't show peoples heads getting crushed and flesh melted. Someday he/she'll be old enough to enjoy MK, and I'm confident you both will survive until then without it.
I'm not giving the game up, I simply have to the parent that can sit down and explain things to the kid. If you go on censoring the world form a child they will learn things on their own. I would rather exposure even to games like MK happen on my watch rather than him go to a friends house.

Kids are kids plain and simple!!

There's a lot of stuff you don't learn about yourself until you actually have kids, and there's a lot of things you don't learn about your parenting style until your kid pushes another kid off the slide or shouts your favorite curse word while building legos.
Believe me man non-parents will just not get it until they become parents!!! To this day my buddy asks me everyday why I had an uneasy feeling while watching the Sinister.

Everybody's got their own style, and we all decide where the lines are. If your kids are ready for this monstrosity then hey man, do your thing. I applaud a parent who wants to be part of the gaming process. But everytime I think about showing my kid MK9 I remember the first time I went over my girlfriends house and watched a bunch of nine year olds playing MKvDC. At the time I hadn't seen it in a while but even with the blood turned off, I was amazed at just how much they were getting off on shit like shooting each other in the face. I was like, jesus christ was this game really that violent? Don't you guys care about the fact that these are super heroes? But they just went back to making catwoman claw faces and beg me to show them how to make deathstroke snap somebody's neck. I was like man I don't think I'll ever be ready to hear my son say he'd like to see somebody's neck get snapped, even when he's a grown ass man. And now there's all this? Yikes.

Well, imo gives player this option will just end like this :

- MK12 "lets not waste time with fatalities anymore, this nerd just want quick match up, pro gaming shit etc."
- Will split community when looking for a match online, people upset about the option will stick with fatality ON but without be able to face every player around.

Now for the "i have kids" bullshit, instead of asking the video game to handle it, do it yourself.

Yeah I once let my kid play MKDC before and I myself didn't realize how violent it was either. The wife and I look at all the games we have and we not only review the content and how violent/non-violent it is, but we also try to look at how complex is the game too. There are some games that can just be frustrating to a child. Your right we all have our own way of parenting, I just take small steps in exposing them to things over time. What I never understood is how my wife even has issues with my son playing SF, yet lets him watch Doctor Who!

I tell you what, man. we could probably vibe all day on this point, cause my kid watches people get shot, blown up and disintegrated all the time in Star Trek all the time but his mom thinks lightsabers are across the line. Still, we've derailed this shit enough, no need to burden the kids with more parent feels.

lol good point

I don't actually play these games
It should be an option for the sole purpose of speeding up the game. Notice how 99.9% of the time everyone mashes to skip sf4 round victory poses or to hit rematch.

I think having a no blood option and a no fatalities option would be really great. After MK9 was just so over the top with blood it just ruined the game visuals and costumes just after the first round. A no blood and no fatality option should be in the game offline and online that does not require mutual consent forcing you to play with blood or fatalities if your opponent doesn't want to punch in his share of the codes. When you go online people should be able to see by your tag info whether you have blood and fatalities turned on or off by a red dot for blood and fatalities and a white dot for no blood and fatalities, that way they have the option not to challenge you if they want blood and fatalities.

I have kids, and luckily I have a good set-up to keep them away from M rated stuff, but I support Storms request for the simple reason @5Ermacs just stated.

would be a pretty easy feature to install and would obviously be OPTIONAL. I don't understand why people are being dicks. I'm all for an option to turn it off and i don't have kids.
