What's new

General/Other I'm thinking of picking up Scorpion.

I need to know before I start working on him... Hes easily my favorite character in this game but is he viable? Is there any reason to actually use him?

He's not as bad as people make him out to be, but he's still not great. He counters a few character pretty hard so if we're just talking for tournaments here he may do you well for the odd Ares or Cyborg matchup that may catch you by surprise.

He's all gimmicks and shananigans, yes i main him... along with batgirl.

Pick up MMH if you're looking for a teleporting character.
Pick up Batgirl if you're looking for a vortex character.

Both better than Scorpion... :(

You're welcome to practice Scorpion online with me if you're on PSN or Steam(PC)

Slips couldn't make it work, so that should indicate to you that he's pretty garbage lol

play him on the side if you want to but if you care about winning at all pick someone else. Better for your blood pressure

If you want to main Scorpion, travel to a different country. Then, pick up a pre-patch version of the game. Never play online, and have a good time with your best buddy pre-patch scorpion destroying campaighn. He is most definetley viable when using this stratedgy.

If this will help you make a decision, I'll list Scorpion's pros and cons as a character.

First, the pros.

1) He doesn't give a fuck about interactables being used against him, thanks to his teleport. In fact, he controls interactables (sort of).
2) Going air-to-air against Scorpion will get you cut down by his jump-3.
3) Unless you're one of a few specific characters, fighting Scorpion from full-screen will get you nowhere. Stand there or walk your way in and expect to get Hellfired. Jump from too far and say hello to teleport punch or spear. In a sense, he's a weaker version of a counter-zoner.
4) Seeing him yell, "Get over here!" and, "Come here!" is godlike. :D

And now, let's get to the staggering list of cons. :(

1) As an Acrobat character, he's limited in the field of interactables.
2) His normals have mediocre attack range.
3) His trait, outside of prolonging combos, is shit-tier.
4) Damage is shit.
5) You have to drain Scorpion's meter a lot in order to keep doing his vortex. You do build meter fast in Injustice, but for what Scorpion is equipped with, it doesn't pay off enough.
6) Nothing he can do is safe. Not flipkick, not the b2 overhead, not the b1 2 string, not his leg takedown, not even the fucking Meter-Burn teleport! You are constantly putting your life on the line unless you're going for a punish.
7) He has a great dash, but terrible walk speed. I probably should have listed his dash in the pros, but I won't bother.
8) Hellfire is so easily avoidable, it's not even worth using to counter-zone.

Did I cover all of it? I bet so.

Still, if you enjoy Scorpion and want to experiment with him as a character, I would welcome you to do so. But for serious tournament play, as much as I want to tell you to go for it...it's not worth it. There are a few characters he bodies with no mercy, but everything I listed above ought to hint to you that you won't want to just use Scorpion when going into tournaments.

Those of you who watched Final Round 17 may remember how I popped off about how NRS always gives Scorpion a raw deal. He better be viable in MK10...

@JDM ignore the nay sayers, if u want to pick up scorpion,do. he does have safe options and damage, 2 things most people say he doesn,he has a strong corner and oki game aswell. also no character ininjustice will make you guess in a match more than scorpion, its all about playing the risk reward game, the risk of mb tele is high vs likes of lobo, batman, frost, batgirl but not so much vs chars like shazam, deathstroke, superman, ares. same goes for b2.
