So one of my friends told me that if aquaman did NOT have trident rush he would be garbage. I'm genuinely curious now. What do you guys think?

This thread is obviously going to attract a lot of "stop downplaying Aquaman" comments.

Having said that, even without the ability to chip away at you with Trident Rush for free, he'd still have...

- a long-ass b1 that punishes dash-ins
- a full-screen counter-zoning tool
- easily the best anti-air/counter-poke tool
- severely damaging combos that are easy to do
- a trait to prevent a combo from launching you
- an effective mix-up game between f1 3 and b1 2
- a shield move that reduces damage dramatically and, with a press of the Meter-Burn button, sends you full-screen, allowing him to continue checking you with From the Deep

A character with all of that certainly can't be so bad.

Well he also said that aquaman has no mixups, and to react to overheads lol i mean PL says the same about batman, but no one can block forever. You're gonna get hit at least once every now and then lol

The part about Aquaman having no mix-ups is somewhat true. You're only gonna get it off a blocked f1, after which you can complete the string in favor of the overhead, or stop it to go for the b1 low. But with how strong his chip damage is, he really does not need mix-ups.

That mixup isn't too hard to fuzzy. Watch his staff. If it returns to the neutral position block low, otherwise block overhead.

Oh, and I forgot to add this to my earlier list:

- a shield move that reduces damage dramatically and, with a press of the Meter-Burn button, sends you full-screen, allowing him to continue checking you with From the Deep

so what would your response be if he said that if the opponent has the life lead and full screen, and aquaman can't do anything if you're zoning him?

I'd tell him, "You'd better hope that the clock is about to run out or else enjoy getting chipped by From The Deep."

Of course, if you're playing Killer Frost, your own Aquaman, or another character that can punish the move from full screen, then you can disregard the above.

Of course, if you're playing Killer Frost, Zatanna (I think her trance can punish it?), your own Aquaman, or another character that can punish the move from full screen, then you can disregard the above.
Zatanna cannot punish it from full screen.
