3/5

Aren't there people willing to lend a Xbox or 2 to the tournament? I mean out of the 200 people that show up to majors, can't there be a trust worthy player or 2 that can bring an Asus/Xbox, or are they worried about property damage?

Can't lack of setups be solved by this?

Why doesn't someone start a donation drive like Sp00ky if the struggle is that real.

I love seeing shit like this from people who have no idea about the resources and time it takes to run a tournament. Not every tournament has enough time to run a 3/5. If you're really getting "randomed" out in a 2/3 maybe you should work on your defense/match up knowledge.
I think you're missng a huge part of what he's saying. FR was not a matter of resources nor time. It was an issue in organization and leadership, which there was very little of from offiicial staff. I don't care how big or small an event is. Without that they will faulter everytime.

And cases like that I totally get. But there are some tournaments that can't do 3/5 because of time constraints or other issues. Running an event is extremely stressful and people should probably lay off the TOs a little bit instead of scape goating them for everything wrong with the community.

OK. Let me start by saying that I am one of the loudest campaigners for 3/5 there are. Especially as a low-level player, I could use all the time I can get to try to download my opponent. Also, I would like to think that it's a little harder to "scrub out" an opponent in a 3/5. Having said that though, let me play devil's advocate for a minute to bring a little perspective.

I'll use my EVO experience from last year as an example. I could be wrong but I think there was time on the Friday to pick up badges. The reality was, like myself, many others didn't arrive until either late Friday or early Saturday (if they had noon or afternoon pools). So my first EVO experience was getting downstairs at 8am to stand in a line that went through the entire hotel just to get my competitor's badge. After an hour or so, they split the line into two and started taking people two at a time. At this point, morning pools had started. Eventually, Mr. Wizard (I think) came out and said to just go play your pools and pick up your badges at some point on Saturday. I stayed in line because I knew I had time before my pool and after I had waited that long, I wasn't moving unless it was closer to my badge :D

I only bring this up to say that wen you're dealing with things like this, with that many people, it's very easy for things to fuck up. As another example, I must hold the record for getting the farthest at EVO without winning a match! I was close to getting out of my MK pool simply because my opponents didn't show up.

How does this apply to the 3/5 rule you ask? It's the clash between scheduling ad logistics. Take my EVO example. if you've got say 2k of your 3500 players spending half the day in a lineup for their badges, it's a little hard to run earlier pools on time (or worst-case scenario at all) with that many people from all games in the same line. I know this can be mitigated by player responsibility to a degree, but not everyone can afford the extra day off work or the extra night in a hotel in Las Vegas to get there a day early for some epic casuals and getting your badge. I myself didn't get to the Paris until 11:30 pm Vegas time. Leaving Injustice at 2/3 is a place where they can say "Oh shit. We're waaay behind but Injustice is coming up and that will go fast."

Now back to MAKE INJUSTICE 3/5 YOU DUMB BEEEYATCHES!!!!!! :D

I've been in the tournament scene for over three years. I know that it is doable with proper planning. TOs tend to not want to deal with things that complicate a process they have done for a while. It is understandable to want consistency. But the game should be 3/5.

Oh yea...Fuck you and your hair too.

Sure. Just refund the massive amount of money it costs to travel to a tourney.
I travel to tournaments as well. TOs aren't the problem.

I don't see what time in the scene has to do with anything. I saw how drained Valle was from planning SCR first hand. Maybe you should run your own tournament if you think it's that easy. I'm not sure why you had to bring my hair into this. That wasn't very nice. You seem insecure. I can give you my gym split and some diet tips if you'd like, maybe that'll help.

I live in SoCal, in a neighborhood on the west side of Anaheim. My name is Brad Payn, I'm 19 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, in a balanced diet, and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if I'm not feeling as swole, I'll take a teaspoon of creatine right before I head to the gym for some bar dips, I can do 1,000 now. In the shower, I generally wash my face down with a warm wash cloth, followed by an old spice body scrub. Then I get out of the shower and let my hair air dry for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. If I'm feeling a little scruffy I'll shave using a razer and some water, because shaving cream drys your face out, and makes you look older. For my hair I use Gatsby rubber, to keep it in place, followed by American Crew pomade to give it that smooth, wavy look. There is an idea of a Doomsday player, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can sense our lifestyles are probably comparable; I simply, am not, there.

...
Brad...the first part will get a response. I am 27, I have a maters degree in exercise physiology. I'm am more experienced and more educated than you in just about anything you just mentioned. I am Vice President and co-founder of my company. I plan conferences and partner events that make tournaments look like your 5 year old birthday party.

But I guess you saw Valle run a tournament so you know what your talking about.

As for the reference...respect

Planning > 3/5

The times, they are a changin'.

I think people are done with complacency in the FGC -- at least in our part of it.

The goal is not to fight against TO's; it's to work with them and help the scene flourish and grow. This requires accepting and being aware of real logistical constraints.

There is a conversation that needs to be had with each TO individually to see what their reasoning is and what the real-world issues are that they'd be dealing with to make it happen. If you want to know what Jebailey or MrWizard is thinking, ask them. By working together, we'll get there :)

I love that we live in a world where people are capable of planning some of the most complex and crucial projects in a timely and accurate manner, but the logistic difficulty of playing 3/5 sets in a tournament is somehow something us mere mortals (as in, non TO's) cannot begin to fathom.
