Mortal Kombat 10 gameplay?

How would you guys feel about counter hits being in MK10?
Like in DOA or like an Alpha Counter?
Both would require some serious work honestly...especially the DOA counters as they were free and were in a game that had sidestepping where as MK is on a fixed 2d plane which would make free counters absolutely horrendous. Not really certain I'd want counters in general though.

What I would like is for breakers to be put on a seperate meter from Xrays and MB attacks so that folks would go for super more instead of having to hoard meter for breakers. I'd also like a bit of pushblock and KoF Dodges tooled into a new MK system but thats just me though...

No, they honestly need to just perfect the system they had in mk9, and maybe add a few new additions to keep things fresh, no need to attempt to *innovate* and make the game worse off for it.

honestly i think they should just follow the tekken formula at this point, not their game style, but how tekken pretty much keeps the same system just making better each game.

I'm praying they keep MK MK and Injustice Injustice. However, MK9 just can't even compare to Injustice. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd feel this way...but Injustice is so much better. It's far more balanced and just kind of looks better.

However, what I'm really trying to say is, just super polish MK10 and make it balanced. This can be done by giving out universal armor.

that's why i want interactables and stage transition for mk10, injustice is just too good now ;_;, and interactables and stage transition are from mk, it should be in mk ;_;. clash and traits are unique so they can stay (traits like NW, WW... are actually mk fighting styles/weapons from mk4/mk3d tho).

Yeah...I agree. I do want interactables as long as they do like 15%. I just hope MK looks like MK...like real people. If they go the KI3 route...I will be very disinterested.

they shouldn't go back to having all those fighting styles tho, otherwise everything will just be a mess.

Honestly , why would you want interactables in MK10? anyone that has played MK right from the start doesn't wanna win with something from the stage , fair enough..interactables suit injustice and DC...but surely not the Golden MK10!

It just needs to have a more refined mk9 feel with more options, hear me out:
- Strings + Links (the more options the better, and this could fix their damage scaling for more optimal combos)
- Breaker: Make it its own Bar
- Push block: Make this the new breaker, it makes sense MK is a very aggressive game
- Keep Xrays just make some better!
- Make better fatalities
- better fundamentals, PLEASE make faster recovery frames!
NO UNIVERSAL ARMOR, give the appropriate amount to characters and allow the others to have options to exploit this, keeps balance

So I posted a thread about a week ago or whenever about my thoughts at the time of what characters should be in MK10 (http://testyourmight.com/threads/mortal-kombat-10-characters.38821/page-2#post-1181299).

After seeing a few more threads about similar subject matter and having people add to the discussion, I've changed my opinions on which on which should be in it a bit. But more importantly, I've thought about how the mechanics of it should be. So here's a bit of both presenting ideas and fantasizing.

In my opinion, I believe MK10 should be in a similar vein as Injustice. Hear me out here.

Mechanics and gameplay:

First and foremost, keep it 2.5D. What they had with MK9 was perfect. It would be pretty hard to take the series into 3D again and have it live up to fans expectations.

Secondly, have interactables. It would add a whole new layer to the gameplay as it has with Injustice. Just thinking of what kind of stuff they would be able to do in the MK universe gets me excited because of how much more gruesome and cringe-worthy they would be. Besides the aesthetically pleasing aspect of it, imagine you're fighting in Reptile's Lair and you knock the opponent into a statue in a corner that spews acid on them, giving you a nice twenty or so percent free damage. Or you're fighting in The Prison and you have a prisoner grab the opponent, setting them up for a new combo. And as a defensive example, you're backed into the corner in Goro's (new) Lair and you swing one of the chains dangling from the ceiling at the aggressor to give yourself some breathing room.

Thirdly, have transitions or bring back death-traps. There's two ways of going about it. First option; have transitions be brought in and have them function like they do in Injustice, except instead of doing a b3, do a d2 or a specific special move (eg: Scorpion's Back-flip Kick) to activate 'em. Second option; bring in death-traps and have players meet the criteria of using their whole meter to activate it. They would, of course, function like they did in Deception and Armageddon and only count as winning one round. Have them be on a one side of the screen or both, vary them between stages. In terms of execution, though, don't have them be as big of a flashy move as X-Ray attacks, that's for the Death Trap itself. Give the move a look like that of a Enhanced move but with a distinct aura or something around the character to allow the defender to notice and attempt to avoid it.

Next up, keep the button layout how it was in MK9. None of this 4 for Character Power business, keep it as a button for each limb. Maybe bring in Character Powers, though. Replace Stance Change with it because, as for I know, that only applied to Kung Lao for ONE combo so it was almost entirely useless. And, obviously, have a button solely for blocking. It's been in MK since day one, so there's no need to mess that all up. And yes, I'm also saying this because it's hard as fuck to re-act to Scorpion's fast tele-punch in Injustice and block it by holding back. Holding back to block works in games like Tekken, Street Fighter, Killer Instinct and, for the most part, Injustice. Not a game were a fair amount of the cast have a teleport-behind-you-and-hit-you move.

Now when it comes to the characters and their mobility, keep it how it is with MK9. Don't have some character move dreadfully slow with an annoyingly slow jump arc when another can move relitavely fast yet have an awkward jump arc like in Injustice. Every character on the playable MK9 roster aside from Sheeva was almost the same height and build in both genders. Also, a new running mechanic similar to that of MK3 and 4 should be implemented. It would open up new combo opportunities, allow characters that have noticeably slow movement (eg: Reptile) to move around easier and, like interactables, add a new layer to the gameplay.

Finally, the meter system; I wouldn't want to see them bring in the Clash system because it sucks. Bump up the number of bars to four, but keep it as one bar for an enhanced move, two for a combo breaker, and three for an X-Ray attack and all four for the Death Trap move.

So yeah, there's my ideas on how MK10 should be. Hopefully you've actually read up to this point, so why not add to the discussion as well?
i can see some of what you said being viable... but that little bit on reptile... if he is played right he is the opposite of slow there buddy....

Both would require some serious work honestly...especially the DOA counters as they were free and were in a game that had sidestepping where as MK is on a fixed 2d plane which would make free counters absolutely horrendous. Not really certain I'd want counters in general though.

A counter hit, when you hit someone well they are performing a attack. Most of fighting games have them.

If you get a counter hit, it gives the move either more damage, or different properties. In most 2D games it's just damage, in the new KI, they give damage and extra hit stun, so you can get counter hit specific combos.

In 3D games, counter hits are more useful, and they vary depending on the string, some moves or strings get new properties on counter hits, like they will cause a launch.

MK and Injustice are one of the very few fighting games I have seen with out proper counter hits.

I mean a simple counter hit system. CH's usually grant more damage on said hit, frame advantage, longer hitstun, etc. Some CH's even alter attack properties, e.g become launchers, cause crumples, etc.

Two separate meter gauges is an idea I've been tossing around in my mind. It's definitely a good idea that would add more strategy to the way the game is played.

I never realized that but yeah, mk9 doesn't have a counterhit system. If it was in mk10, it could add another layer of depth. Buts that discussion should be for another thread of it's own. I love it in tekken personally, especially when someone is mashing buttons and I use a move that can launch on counterhit (*cough* steve's b1 *ahm*)

Yeah I don't recall any MK having a counter hit system. It would be great though, not to mention it could be made visually appealing. The counter hit "flash" could have the x-ray effect on the section of the characters body where the hit landed.

IF they still use strings for MK10, counter hits would be a nice way to vary them up a bit, give some of the less useful strings better counter hit properties so players would have a reason to use them over there pressure/launch/w/e strings.
I like the way you think

I hope they pretend injustice never happened, but still give us in-game frame data. Honestly, I just want a giant balance patch and a shit ton of characters (tremor, CHAMELEON, and frost). Most of the cast have unique play-styles, their just missing a few things to make them competitively viable. I fear they might completely change everybody, or most of them, as if they everything about them was wrong.

Also characters are a gimmick. All of them, with the exception of a few (Green Arrow's.... kinda) could have been specials/supers, most of them have. So I don't think Traits belong in Mortal Kombat.

what "MK fans" think:
- let mk be mk a.k.a. let mk10 be mk9.000000001
- interactables and stage transition are from injustice, mk has never had things like those and shouldn't have those.
- mk9's gameplay is so deep and doesn't have any flaw.
- when someone say "use something from injustice's gameplay" or something like that, it means copy paste everything from injustice and make mk10's gameplay be completely like injustice.
- let use mk9 chars for mk10 cuz 3d era sucks.

EL OH EL @ "MK fans", they make me want to cry and laugh at the same time.
