How do i get use to the dragon punch or shoryuken movement on d-pad with the controller?

hello i play on the ps3 controller and xbox controller with the d-pad and i cannot ever do the dragon punch movement or forward, down, diagonal down forward i play fighting games a lot but no matter how i practice it i always have problems if anyone has any tips to get use to the motion it would really help me out, or should i just switch to the stick on the ps3/xbox

At the end of the day the choice to switch to a stick should be made on comfort and preference. I'd similar problems with the 360 controller and found that switching to the analog stick made the shoryuken come out a bit more consistently, but it relies heavily on being exact with the down+forward portion. My best results on the D-Pad came from using just the very tip of my thumb across the edge of the pad. As a recommendation, you should go into practice mode with your game of choice and turn on the input display to see if any extra commands are making their way through <I'd often end up carrying all the way forward again and throwing fireballs many moons ago in SF IV>. Aside from that, consider snagging a cheaper arcade stick or finding one to use a bit and see if you enjoy the feel.

no what i mean by stick is the joy stick part of the controller lol i'm to broke to afford an arcade style controller and if anything i would probably purchase a hit box

I like to use the part of my thumb that has the "crease" on the skin, and I place it directly in the middle of the dpad, so basically my thumb has contact with all directions at the same time, and I use a "rolling" motion to execute motions. This method can be rough on the skin but I've been doing since I was 6 playing sf2, so my skin has toughened up and is used to it. Also, imo your thumb should never lose physical contact with the dpad, I'm imagining that your losing contact with the dpad after you press forward, then reset back to; down, down forward, etc, and the moment you lifted your thumb is the part where your messing up the execution. Hope that makes sense

oh hell no, aint nobody using the joystick in any pad

Lot of people use the sticks in combination with the dpad, read some Kabal execution tips by DoctrineDark and he did some stuff with the sticks and other things with the dpad (xbox360pad btw )

Just press fwd (I press fwd on the edge of the button) - down - downforwrd and try to slide the down-downfwd motion. It takes some time to practice but once you have it down it's quite easy.

Too little, too late...
That's why I tagged Doctrine, I can't remember if it was a YT vid or a thread on TYM. I look around a bit...
I have hidden some videos after received copyright notices, all of the material in my channel was made with xbox 360 controller, was difficult to learn to use the xbox joystick, at the end is just practice.

When I was trying to make Shoryuken in SSF4 always ended in a free jump, was very frustrating lol

lol the last mortal combat game i played was Armageddon on the ps2

Armageddon was a fun game, still have it at home but I don't have a PS2. You should try MK9 sometime, it's quite easy to get into but it has a real nice meta once you get deeper into it. Way more solid than the other 3D MK's imo.

btw, it's Kombat :D.

I read it a long time ago, all vids stay epic btw... A lot of tech on your channel too... subscribed :D

But didn't you use a combination of analog and dpad for some stuff??

I like the Xbox360 dpad for some motions though, floating dpads are way more fluent than cross style directional pads. It's just a pitty that most floaters aren't really precise, they should all work like 2d generation Saturn pads

Is this motion giving you trouble in every game that uses it? Old 360 d-pads are well known for being unreliable and of shoddy quality, by the way.

I thought u used it for IAGB's or something. Then maybe it was someone else that used both (it was a Kabal player though).

Qwark28 : guess I was wrong about Ddark using analog+dpad, prolly someone else, just don't know who it was (or in what dream I read it :))

if what you are saying is true than my mind is a little blown if it is just like what you 2 said i kinda feel a bit like an idiot

There are no idiotic questions only idiotic answers :D, the most stupid question is the question that has not been asked!
