New to MK9.. Choosing a main?

I started playing mk last week Tuesday and am having a blast with it except when I lose lol. Anyways I'm curious how long it took for you guys to pick a main to focus on? And how long did it take you to get to where you could win matches by actual skill rather than luck

Well, personally I just tried out everyone I thought looked cool or like his/her style of play. I ended on Smoke. After that I just looked up some BnB (Bread n Butter) combos and learned them. Took me about 2 weeks or so to get comfortable in a match situation and being able to pull off the combos.

Bottom line is, pick a main you LIKE playing, not from a tier list. It'll be more fun for you and you'll learn/get a lot better quicker.

Just pick someone easy to begin with. Once your comftorable with them, your fundamentals begin to grow.

IMO scorpion, liu kang, smoke and sub zero were easiest for me to learn. But now I main johnny cage because I understand the fundamentals and frame traps more now.

Welcome to the site!

I'd suggest Liu Kang. He's easy to pick up (and he's just bad-ass). Check him out!

Lmao Squeaker101 you walking liu kang bilboard.

Id say sub or cyrax. Sub can teach you great spacing and footsies and he's an absolute blast to play. Nothing more fun than baiting someone into an ice clone for a full combo.

Cyrax is just a complete badass. His huge reset combos are a close second to sub's clone setups.

But basically try people out, just stick to whoever suits you. Don't be fooled by tier lists telling you your character sucks. If you like them, youl succeed with them. Glad to have you on the site

As for a main... pretty much what everyone else said. You just have to experiment to find out who suits you best. But try out everyone, who knows, you may ending up liking sindel or something. lol

Worse than Kabal and Kenshi? ;).

Kenshi is not broken. Does he have 1209847120% resets with one net catch? Or how about 100% unbreakable combos? ;)
Kenshi is designed to be a zoner and he's just very, very good at it. You mission is to get in on him. Tough for characters without great armor or teleports (sub zero) but that's just... TUFF TITTIES for them. :p

Kabal isn't broken in the same sense as Cyrax...

Cyrax is broken b/c of junk you shouldn't be able to do (see above sentence). Kabal is broken b/c of bad character design. It's like they couldn't decide if he should be a zoner or a rushdown character so they made him both and they made him the best at both. Thus, no matter what you do... you don't have a clear cut strategy against him, that's OP, and thus broken.

All that said... I'd rather face a cyrax than a Kabal or Kenshi. lol

Pretty much whoever looks cool to you.

Some characters with easy learning curves are Scorpion, Ermac and Liu Kang.
