Let's go green!!!!
Vulcan Hades Holy cow these are some awesome matches. My personal favorite is the kabal one. My goodness that's was an EPIC match. I watched 1:51 over and over lol. I know it's corner specific, but I wish that setup was a guaranty 50/50 for stryker :) Now back to business... after getting that huge life lead, you should have stayed away and zone the hell out of him. Force him to come to you and bait the EN dash. Good games tho I think you played this match up really well considering how insane this kabal actually is.

Stryker vs Kung Lao
Caps off man. I just dont know how to deal with this guy. And a babality lol...i dont care I would have pulled a rage quit too (jk)

Stryker vs Sindel
teabagging! really? is that what we have come to now lol. Avoid trying to close the gap on sindel by jumping especially from full screen. Good job on shutting her down with grenades. I will keep that in mind the next time I run into one.

Stryker vs Kitana
In my book stryker is kitana's bad matchup. You also played this matchup well. One thing to note, 1:50 just dont jump or try to do air to air punch with Kitana. Just focus on zoning her with gun/gun cancel shenanigans and grenades. Only jump after you bait the stupid fan launcher move.

GGs all around man. Very exciting and enjoyable matches for sure :)

Thanks for the feedback man. :)

Kabal is so hard. You really have to play flawless vs good players using him. I think I played the match good but I made 1-2 bad calls in that last round that cost me the game. I think using EX gun shot in the corner was a mistake because it took away an early breaker that would've come in handy later. And then that random roll toss I threw out I'm not sure why. If I had just blocked his EN nomad dash I would've won because he didn't have a breaker. :(

Kung Lao's still a bitch even after all his nerfs. I especially hate his roll kick which completely kills gun shot from mid-screen. And I'm not sure why but I can't dash forward D4 vs KL's teleport anymore. I'm sure I've done this in the early versions of the game. But now KL seems impossible to hit. Best option seems to be standing 4 / uppercut but even those don't work vs his instant kick.

vs Sindel, yeah you're right. Jumping is generally bad in this match. But I'm so used to Sindels and Liu Kangs that abuse the low fireball lol. Because roll toss can easily kill air fireballs unless they're instant. I kept thinking "he's going to shoot low!" so I kept jumping like an idiot.

Thanks I'll keep your advice in mind for Kitana.

Quantus: Thanks for explaining it better. I think I finally understand. :) Basically we can only interrupt Rain if he cancels his RH. But if he lets go it hits before we can do anything, even jumping out and X-ray won't work if he lets go of kick. That makes sense. So if we think he's going to let go, it's better to keep blocking and just check him with a poke afterwards. I know he's only at -3 on block so his RH is impossible to punish but at least we can space him out / chip cancel into gun hold or baton sweep / roll toss.

I'm only on xbox btw.

Let's go green!!!!
Here is one of the matches that I had last night and also a session with LGuille against his Freddy, Kitana, NightWolf. I had to bring out my rusty Kenshi for a few matches just for fun :)

STRYKER VS SCORP

Im only posting this because I went without any fear of the regular and EN teleport :) plus I actually landed the EN tp punish that I have been practicing. In my experience, decent scorp players will use EN tp to close the gap and counter zone. Knowing that I dont have to block it makes this match up less scary (at least for the ones that like to stay full screen lol). Now I want to know how I would do against an experience player who actually rushes me down.

Stryker/Kenshi vs LGuille Freddy/ Kitana/ Nightwolf

Stryker vs Freddy / Kitana

Stryker / Kenshi vs Kitana / Nightwolf

Stryker vs NightWolf / Kitana

I´m trying to retire but i can´t... I´ll see more videos later...
About that kung lao, great match Vulcan... try to beat some teleport with NJP... Just the "instant" kick can win a NJP, but still trhow you away, keeping advantage.

GAMESPY SUCKS!!!

Good matches Police Brutality. :)

vs Kitana you were doing way too much uppercuts. Use D1, D4 or Sweep to check her instead. Much safer. Also, don't try to zone her around jump distance. That's where Kitana wants you to be.

I wish I knew the Freddy matchup well enough to give you some input. But I'm still trying to figure his offense and zoning out. I don't really have a gameplan for this match tbh. I just try to rush him down and keep abusing cross-over jump punches because I heard he has poor AA and escape options. From far away I try to play some mind games with gun cancel. I know I can't outzone him, so I do gun hold, then I wait for him to make a move and no matter what projectile he uses I can just avoid it with gun cancel jump forward. And as soon as I land I either go for backdash xx gun shot, dash xx baton/roll or dash xx jump in. Stuff like that.

Can't really comment on Kenshi. :p

I think Nightwolf is an easy match for Stryker. Reflect is super easy to bait and punish. Then when Nightwolf respects gun cancels you can start zoning him pretty easily. Roll toss beats everything Nightwolf has except hatchet. All you need to watch out for is that EN shoulder dash when NW has meter. But even then it is easily baitable and punishable with gun xx D1/D3/D4 or gun xx jump away > combo. Just need to make good reads and manage your frame advantage.

OK guys, I usually post my ass whooping here to ask for help on how to deal with certain stuff... This videos is no different (ass whooping wise), but this time it is also educational. I often heard about this guy' stryker and how ridiculous it is. Well let me tell you, the rumors were true lol. After playing him online and seeing his stryker, my draw dropped (literally). GAMETIME6193 is the first person I've seen rushing with stryker like that. And quite frankly, it is annoying lol. Hope you guys enjoy this stryker mirror. I learn a LOT from it, hopefully you guys will too.

Styker vs Stryker

AGAIN VGGs to GAMETIME6193 and many thanks for letting me post our session :)

I gotta be honest, I wasn't really impressed by that Stryker and I wasn't a fan of how he generally played. It just seemed so... random lol. He did a lot of rolls and jump ins and you pretty much always let him in. If you punished / avoided his jump pressure and roll tosses then he wouldn't even be able to touch you.

Offensively, he wasn't bad. But like I said everything he did seemed just random. Like there wasn't any thought to anything. He didn't really take advantage of a jump in to mixup or frame trap. He just did stuff like jump punch, D3, jump again, a few punches, D4, D4.

D3 isn't a mixup. It doesn't do anything except 1% and maybe condition the opponent to crouch block. But if you don't follow D3 with another D3, D4 or throw then it's kind of pointless. If he's going to cross-over jump, he might as well do D1 because it's faster and at least builds meter when the opponent stands block.

That's the thing tho, the fact that he is so random makes it annoying. Being constantly checked by D3 is soooo freaking ANNOYING RRRGH!! it prevents you from jumping out and when you finally can, you get greeted with a Standing 3 or 4. Also it sets you up for cross up punches if done right. Im more of the turtle type when it comes to my playstyle. I will zone the hell out and occasionally try to pressure. But with him, he felt like he was constantly in my face which I must admit was a surprise to me. It's like having a leech on you lol. It doesnt do too much high damage but definitely draining you life bar lol. My very first match which I didnt record felt overwhelming. I'm just not use to stryker like that. I just didnt know stryker could be this annoying up close. After my session I cant help think that there is definitely something about D3 that I havent explored yet

But all that is true for D1 as well.. Except for a few differences:

1. D1 builds meter when opponent stand blocks.
2. D1 can be comboed into gun shot / roll toss if opponent tries to jump. D3 cannot.
3. D1 is 1 frame faster.

I remember saying this a while ago but I think D3 is best used as a defensive tool (UMK3 style) more than an offensive one. D3 is good because it modifies Stryker's hittable box so he can avoid a lot of high and special mid attacks with it. Offensively, D3 is still a nice mixup with throw. But I just see very little reason to use it over D1 for pressure. Since they both essentially do the same thing but D1 seems better all around to me. I guess it's a matter of preference in the end.

wait! what!? D3 doesnt build meter on block or is it only D1 and D4  maybe I read that one wrong hehe. OK you bring a lot of valid point about D1 and I think the mixture of your D1 + D3 approach would make a formidable stryker up close :) BTW although D1 is one frame faster, I think the recovery of D3 is faster (at least it just looks that way). It seems easy to spam D3 than D1 IMO.

No I meant while they're standing lol.

See if the opponent is stand blocking, then D3 hits them low for 1% damage, but you get no meter gain. But D1 hits high, so it does build meter even if opponent stand blocks. I see that as an advantage and I'll take the meter gain over 1% damage anytime of the day. It isn't much meter, but it can make all the difference in the world in the long run. How many times you lost a round or match because you were half a meter short of a breaker or EN move? Well that's why I abuse D1. :)

You just need 6 blocked D1s to build a half a bar of meter. Which really isn't hard to do in a round. Combine that with gun shot, gun cancels, B2, Stryker's safe strings, blocked roll tosses and grenades and Stryker can really build a lot of meter.

d3 should give enough advantage for a d4 which leads to advantage of a quick block string. I think that is universal for 90% of the cast. Generally d1 is best online though... so many people jumping.
Vulcan is a beast with Stryker, glad he is helping you guys out. I still think Sub is a horrible horrible match for him.

Here are 2 matches between me and WoundCowboy:

This is like our 4th or 5th match I think. By then I was starting to get a better feel of the matchup and started adapting. If you're wondering why I was being so aggressive and kept rushing down Shang, it's because I tried zoning him as best as I could the first 3 games and that REALLY didn't work out lol. I wish I had recorded one of the matches where I tried to outzone Shang. Trust me it wasn't pretty to look at. :p But it would've been easier to see what I meant last night.

Like I said Shang can just lame it out and crouch block all day if you try to zone him. He just needs to throw random ground skulls from time to time. You lose on trades because he can check you with a skull. And let's be realistic, we ain't gonna win vs Shang with only grenade chips and gun shots.

Of all the roll toss attempts I tried, I think I only landed 2 or 3 of them. The others were either countered or blocked. And since Stryker is in negative frames after a blocked roll toss, Shang can just start his frame traps and we're fucked if we have no meter.

btw sorry about the sound lol. I bought a new pad recently and it's pretty loud when I press buttons. :D

edit: Oh yeah, I was in the asylum tourney last night. Don't know if some of you watched it. But here's the link: http://www.twitch.tv/menace87/b/306087769

starting at 45:50 I'm in losers vs Cyrax player. Then I play another Cyrax, 1 smoke and 2 Jax.

I ended up being eliminated by Habity's Jax. 1 match away from making it to top 16. My execution was pretty scrubby and I made a lot of bad calls. But I still did okay.

Wow, talk about a patient shang. Rushing him down seems to work and I think you need a better gameplan to break the crouch block. Try mixing 2,3 xx Gunshot hold, or B1,2 or B3 into throw instead of the B2F2. One thing I have noticed is that you try to jump out too much when under pressure. Even though it is a mind game, look at 0:35 and 1:12 marks of the video, it seems that this is you window to either jump out or throw a D1 in (right before he throw the D3). Whereas, if you try to jump after the D3 (watch the 2:15 and 2:30) you will get caught up in the following string that Shang will attempt to do. Like I said it will becomes a mind game because we dont know if the Shang player will throw out a random string or D3. I believe I mostly see D3 after the ground skull, so that could be something we need to investigate :)

I would suggest throwing a D1 or D3 (still experimental) to interrupt the upcoming string after the ground skull. I really dont know if shang is at + frame after the skull. Another thing you can do, trying doing and EN roll toss and maybe EN baton sweep to get out of pressure instead of jumping out. You said stryker is at negative frame after a block roll tross, I thought it was neutral, no? Nonetheless, good games :D I enjoyed watching both matches and most importantly you ACTUALLY rushing down :p

I wiil try to request a session against shang and see what I can get away with lol. Right now im trying to teach stryker how to fight up close and personal, Maybe Shang will be a good opponent to test it against.

Good point about the ideal moment to try and cross-over jump. I didn't notice it tbh, but now that you mention it, every time I blocked a D1 or D3, I tried to jump and got caught by a Knee or D3 preventing me to jump. So we need to jump before D3 comes out, not after we block them.

Police Brutality said:

Stryker is "safe on block", but that doesn't mean he's +0 on block. Stryker is somewhere between -3 and -6, which isn't enough disadvantage to be punished by a combo or pokes, but enough to give frame advantage to the opponent.

For example: Shang's D3 has 7 start up frames. Let's say Stryker is -3 on block. If I try to D1 it will come out in 9 frames instead of 6 because of the -3 recovery. So Shang will likely outpoke me even though his normal is 1 frame slower than mine. There's only 3 things we can do to after Shang blocks our Roll: Jump out, use an armor move or block. Hmm, not sure if backdashing would work...

But even though jump punch worked for me a few times, other times I got anti-aired by his D1 and that allowed him to juggle me to death. (1:36) I found JK to be a good counter vs his D1 though.

1:55 - That's probably our best bet to deal a lot of damage on Shang while we're zoning him. gun xx dash xx jump punch combo (from far away). However that fails if Shang does close ground skull I believe (not sure about medium skull). But here he tried EN skull and I won. I think that's something worth trying.

Yeah I do realized that you had a lot of success with the JK. Tbh that kinda inspired me to train the JK~dash~D4 xx Roll toss. I would much rather get a 20% five times and be done with the opponent than eating that juggle at 1:36 lol. I'm guess once the we can successfully respect JK, that will give us a window to actually do a jump punch (One can only hope :D)

Be careful with the jump kick. While it will usually beat D+1, it does not consistently beat standing 1. Once you block a close ground skull, you CANNOT poke me your options are to:
1) jump (risky because if I go with a D+1 or another F+4 GS you will get anti-aired and reset)
2) Armor through my next attack
3) Block my poke and counter poke

Once you know these things, then the meta game begins. If I think you are going to try and block my poke I will go straight back into F+4 GS because you have to know ahead of time what you are going to do: it is a guessing game. I can also try to cross you up.
Hope this helps.

Oh that helps a lot. And thanks for pointing out the counter measure options. I was actually trying to get a session with a good Shang and tryto see what works :). I guess now I have put your suggestions into practice hehe. Thanks again :D

Yeah thanks a lot for the tips. :) I'll try to keep them in mind next time I fight Shang.

2 more recent matches:

There's a few more in my channel but these 2 were the most interesting vids I think.

1st vid because I show Kabal is possible to outzone and keep out. Stryker has ways to bait the EN nomad dash and ground saw, both of which are super unsafe. And Stryker can punish gas blasts with EN roll.

2nd vid I showcase Stryker's amazing footsies potential. :) Using gun cancels for spacing and meter building purposes + to condition her. I step in and out of mid-range and check her with pokes, throw or a random special. Letting bullets fly from time to time just to mess with my opponent and make sure he keeps committing to dash block.

my god is #1 on xbl ladderf and he no longer picks sonya against me (usually its rain from him now.

it sounds like your strangling the shit out of your controller good hustle

Play Foxy or Riu48 if you want to play vs a good Sonya. Every other Sonya player on xbl doesn't know how to use her at her best. mygod is a good player when he uses his main characters. But he doesn't really know how to use Sonya all that well.

No lol. It's the new pad I bought from MadCatz. It's not bad but it makes a lot of noise and it's a little sensitive. Like, I press back but I jump out because the controller thinks I'm pressing up. :/ I still need to get used to it.

It's really not a pad I would recommend but it's still better than my old one where the back button didn't even register 75% of the time lol.

I must admit the Stryker footsies in the Sonya video was just a work of art. My personal favorite was gun cancel into sweep followed by gun cancel into throw. I finally watch the videos again with the volume up, my goodness that's a loud pad LOL. Kabal getting out zoned was a bit funny. He looked so lost. I bet you at the end of the match Wizzy was probably like "What the hell just happened" lol

Hey Vulcan Hades did you get the MLG pro gaming pad or just a regular one? I'm considering getting the MLG pro but I don't feel like spending 100 bucks on it
Nah I bought the cheap one lol.

I didn't see the MLG pro one. Some people suggested I buy the Hori EX2 turbo pad or something like that but it seems out of stock everywhere.

So it was between MadCatz, the SSF4 "sega saturn" pad and the new microsoft one with a rotating d-pad. I heard bad things about all 3 so I settled with MadCatz who was the cheapest one rofl. I literally payed like 30$ for it so I don't really care if it breaks in 6 months. I'll just buy a better one next time.
