SSF4:AE - PC

EX Ovi should launch
So im thinking of picking up street fighter, but i was discouraged by the lag i get through ps3 so i am swaying towards the pc copy.

Does anyone know of any reason as to why this would be a bad idea?

Also are there any high spec requirements for it, my laptops nothing special but it can hold its own, is the fact that its not super specced going to affect me that much?

I will probably go the dirty way and torrent it for the night just to see how it plays out, and if it works il get myself a copy, so anything you can tell me that would help tip my decision on getting it would be appreciated!

I got a Key for attending Evo after buying the game so it became useless.

I have a pretty strong laptop and even the lowest settings for the game is almost unbearable. I wonder if there is a benchmark. If the game runs well I can probably give the key to you.

Minimum Requirements:

OS: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz and up
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 and up supported (operation on-board is not guaranteed)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and up (except for NVIDIA GeForce 7300), VRAM: 256MB and up (operation sharing with main memory is not guaranteed) or ATI Radeon X1600 and up VRAM: 256MB and up.
Hard Drive: 4.5 GB free hard drive space
Sound: DirectSound, DirectX9.0c Compatible Audio
Other Requirements: Online play requires software installation of and log-in to Games For Windows – LIVE

Recommended Hardware:

OS: Windows Vista/Windows 7
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo 2.0 GHz and up
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 and up supported (operation on-board is not guaranteed)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 and up, VRAM: 512MB and up (operation sharing with main memory is not guaranteed)
Hard Drive: 4.5 GB free hard drive space
Sound: DirectSound, DirectX9.0c Compatible Audio

My laptop is stronger than the recommended settings and it still has a few frames of input lag.

I will have to try it out then, if your saying its got above avarage spec requirements then i doubt i can handle it but theres really only one way to find out!

On a related note however, is the netcode for street fighter on console any sort of step up from the MK netcode. I mean i can get decent games if theres plenty of bandwidth going in my house, however theres times when like 3 or 4 people have different devices running over the network and that trashes the connection, especially being wireless and on the other side of the house.

net code is a step up by far. The execution barrier is a lot higher which makes online play very frustrating.

If you end up being able to run the game I might be able to teach you fundamentals of the game.

Would definitely appreciate all the help i can get. Ive played it a few times but my only real experience comes from flailing randomly, pretending that i know what im doing, because i see high level players space and time things using whiffs and SF focuses alot on footsies.

First thing im likely to do once i pick it up is just train myself on a character (probably claw) and just start from the normals, and play just using normals until i learn which normal to place where and such, then slowly branch up. This late in a game im mostly going to be relying on stuff that other players are using and developed tactics, instead of starting out with a character and bringing my own game along to mould that character to how i think/want them to play from analysing their moves.

I dont say much on the execution level of the game, because you pick it up as you go along and i played marvel enough to be able to do DP and hcf motions, aswell as charge moves when i need to, its stuff like links and combo timings that im going to need to practice, as obviously dial a combo is a laughing stock to any sf player.

Claw is a tough character to start with. I hate to say it but Ryu is very user friendly when it comes to learning the fundamentals of the game.

The best thing to start doing is understanding his hit confirms. cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk into fireball for example. If you realized you've landed the link then you modify it to cut off the cr.mk into fireball and turn it into a dragon punch instead (hit confirmed). Dragon punch of course turns into fadc ultra.

try to get comfortable sticking out cr.mk fireball as your counter poke game. This sort of conditions jumping which means you need to be on point with dragon punch as anti air.

theres a lot more to it than that, but this is a decent foundation for a beginner. Since it teaches the concept of hit confirming or making your block string safe, anti air's and buffering special cancels/zoning.

Hit confirms arent new to me, and ryu is the whole go to character for newbs so i dont know if it would be more beneficial to use what knowledge i have to apply it to a less basic character than just learn a character whos fundamentals will apply anyway. Im sure vega has some similar hit confirms, and his spacing and mix up game is relied on heavily so learning just how to play his basics i feel is going to push my game a step up immediately when i can pull it off!

i think a huge disadvantage from starting this late in the game too is matchups , people have been playing this game for a while now, know what to expect where as i am not going to know things at first glance, so im not just learning how to play the game from my point of view, i have to learn the whole roster aswell and what they can do, then il be on my way to being able to play :D

Sounds good! Maybe we can play some time, I'm a little behind right now because staying good at the game requires lots of maintenance in training mode.

At least you can't really forget how to use Dhalsim who is my main but my Abel stinks horribly now!

sure i'll play anyone, im in the UK incase that affects our likelyhood of a decent connection, but yeah im definitely game for some games, sweet!

Are there any "rare candy" tips as you might say, that people learning the game should know to give them a boost?

Grabbing this tonight btw so i can see how it plays and hopefully figure out whether i have to get a ps3 copy..

pc? LOL

buy an xbox, the whole community is there, the best players in eu are on xbl, btw xbox is the tournament machine aswell.

I have my laptop at work dude, means i can play sf whenever the boss is out, and in bed, at friends houses, anywhere i go tbh, and i can probably put alot more time in than just on console, cant say i knock the idea myself but each to their own.

Xbox broke before xmas just after my xbl ran out, warranted me buying a ps3 and i would never look back now :D

The uk scenes the same though, xbox xbox xbox, but ps3 seems to be full to the brim with french people so i guess its the go to console over there :D

if i can make it run on my laptop that is. Will be getting super for ps3 tomorrow off a buddy, but il have to buy Ae eventually if i want to really get into it.

Is super not a different version/build to Arcade Ed? I thought it was, so you cant properly get competetive at a game when you play a different version of it to the tournament standard...
lol, u just donwload the ae update, thats it!

u CANT choose the 4 new fighters but u can still play AE, if u like to choose them, buy the dlc

He's wrong, you do need to buy AE to get the AE balance changes. That free update is just so you can play SSF4 online with people who have downloaded AE.

However, since 2012 has been released, which was a free patch, I'm unsure if that affected SSF4, or just AE.

So people that got nerfed in AE are unaffected if your using super ? thats crazy D:

Just think of them as two different games. People can choose to play Super online if they want to play the last iteration of Super (or don't want to buy AE lol). Or you can play AE as it is the most up to date and tournament standard game. It's pretty cool that you can play which version you want in player match, just not cool that they force you to pay for the updated version!

Nope, you don't, I wouldn't have bought AE otherwise lol, don't give a crap about the 4 AE characters. Got two PSN buddies who play Seth and both of them prefer to play Super over AE because he got nerfed in AE, and one of them hasn't bought AE for that reason. Apparently he got better in 2012 though.

If you go to options after you buy AE you can switch versions between Super and AE, if you just download the compatibility pack you don't have that option (I know because I downloaded the compatibility pack first expecting it to give me the balance changes, but it didn't). Whenever you play a match it tells you with the flashy logo on the versus screen what version you're playing, and it always has the silver "Super Street Fighter 4" logo if you haven't downloaded AE.

Again, I don't play enough SF4 to know what affect the 2012 patch had on normal Super, but I am 100% certain that (at the very least before the patch), you had to have bought AE to have the AE balancing.
