Question Is Rain worth learning?

Enenra

Go to hell.
So, I am being really open minded and trying to learn a bunch of characters. So far I'm pretty happy with robot Cyrax/Sub Zero/Noob combo, but going back to my MKT favorite would be awesome too. So here are my questions: Is Rain worth the five dollars, and is he worth really learning and really getting good with?

Lt. Boxy Angelman

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Some of the highest no-meter damage in the game, solid mixups and RH Cancel shenanigans, the Bubble, 4 3 Pop The Bottle corner pressure, he's Rain, a not-all-that-bad Teleport, but his lightning's blockable unlike Nightwolf, and he's not as fast as he once was.
IMO, definitely invest in the Edenian Prince. That man does not take any bullshit. Nope.

What kind of tier position is he? I really don't need any more mid-low tier characters on my roster lol (Saibot, Scorpion, etc.) I really like the part where you said he was Rain though.

Lol. He was my bestest ninja pal in MKT. Fuckin' Roundhouses, all day long.
Idk where he's at at the moment on the list, but he is definitely a worthy adversary in the right hands in my eyes.
He is diverse as hell, just in the different ways that he can weave in and out of the fight.

Sounds sexy. I'll learn me some Rain. I just realized you said one of the highest meterless damaging combos... Exactly what I like.

I personally find him to be a royal pain in the ass to use, but he's one of those characters that aren't easy to play but the rewards are so worth it if you do learn how to play him.

I'd say get all the DLC anyway since they are all tournament-legal now so at some point you will want to learn the matchups.

And remember, Rain is the only character that can START a kombo with his X-Ray. If that isn't effed up enough for you then you're plaing the wrong game :D

xenogorgeous

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
Every single character in MK9 worth to be learned .... the reasons ? simple :

- some, of course, being your favourite, have priority, so, you learn to kick ass with, for competitive purpose

- others, you learn to know the bad matchups your main characters have, so, you learn about your possible nemesis in this game, and how to counter attack, and defend against

- and finally, when you get tired, bored, and fed up of playing the same characters, over and over again, you learn the rest of the roster, for fun, when you want to learn new stuff from new character, and play with friends or ladder, for stress relief time reason

You should learn the minimal basics of every character.

Rain's a OK character. Fun to use.
OK? What's wrong with him? Some are saying he's great, top 10, some are saying he's eh. And I'm a Sub Zero mainer so Rain does nothing to frighten me. I'm literally leaning either way, I just don't want to pay 5 dollars for DLC cash n grab like Rain to learn he's "OK."

RampaginDragon

Loses to uppercuts
Definitely. If you get good with him he is a force to be reckoned with. He’s a very good fighter. He has a lot of different tools so it may take some time getting used to them all and learning to use them, but once you do he’s dangerous.

Pig Of The Hut

Day 0 Phenomenal Dr. Fate and Darkseid player
Requires high execution , great pay off

I think he is a character that takes longest to be at a high level with

To me he is the most fun to play with

He takes awhile to get used to.... because the RH cancel isn't the easiest thing to pull off. Thing is... all of his combo's range between the high 30's to the low 50's depending on the setups. He is coated in armor, which means you have to learn to manage the meter you build. He takes learning the game mechanics to a new level. To me, he is under used. He is almost in the Raiden category of taking characters out of what they want to do. With a normal life lead and meter, he basically can dare you to attack, and PUNISH you for it. He is Raiden Jr. in my opinion.

Faded Dreams V

Retired June 2012. Unretired June 2013.
Like Pig said, Rain requires extremely high execution. What does this mean? Aside from mastering RH cancels, it means you better not even consider using him online unless you have good connection cause if you play people with two dots or below, you will drop almost everything. Definitely not an easy character to pick up and play. Hell, the only good Rain I've ever played online is BookBurning, and even he can't help but drop shit in minimal lag.

Personally, I regret paying those 5 bucks for Rain. Though this isn't just because I don't use him; it's because I was stupid enough to not buy the Season Pass, and instead bought 3/4 characters for the same price. lol

for what my opinion is worth,id definetly put him in top 10.he's one of the most versatile characters in the game and i cant think of the top of my head of a bad match up for him.like someone said all the dlc is worth getting anyway but if your on a budget and can only get 1,id pick rain everytime,he's alot of fun to use.

Haaave you met Sektor?

Well, I did the same and I'm happy that Krueger doesn't stain my selection screen.

Thanks all who replied. I'll give him a try. The high execution sounds like he'd be a cool character to learn, and the high combos shout payoff. Thanks again everyone!

Personally I think the only thing Rain has going for him is his damage output. If you want versatility then play Jax.

Buffalo

Bison of Beat Downs
I think so. His moves are fun to play with, but be warned that he really suffers online if you're playing on anything less than a three-dot connection. So many dropped combos.

RunwayMafia

Shoot them. Shoot them all.

I think you should just main who you LIKE or are a fan of. That's how I am. My roster (Kitana, Sindel, and Sheeva) is because I love those bitches. I've tried to pick up super characters but if I don't "click" or "bond" with them, so to speak, it's pointless for me. I've recently picked up Rain because I think he is the baddest ninja and I love his look. With that said, I also think Rain is one of those characters that once you start getting in and subjecting them to his "rain bubble"...you can really fuck with people!

Pick Jax, I like the fact that Rain is underused :D

About the online, I noticed that some Rain animation like the superkick can make some lil lag which fucked up the next timing x)

Rain has massive potential, I'm far along that road but still not there but yes, I believe he is worth learning. And Faded Dreams V . Alot of my execution mistakes were made because I have been practicing loads of other characters besides Rain; hell I just discovered that while trying to do my armored dash, half of the time it wasn't coming out was because I was holding block for too long. The point is, his "high execution" can easily easily be overcame and his high damage output, RH mixups, armor and great normals make him extremely extremely good.

Don't listen to anyone who says that he isn't worth learning because they don't know what they're talking about.
