The TYM Ultra-Mega Hitbox Thread

We'll, I'm 6'6 so i think the 30mm are probably fine for me, I cant say though I've never used 24's.

I tried explaining the wiring without pics but forget it, I'll take some pics even though my insides are a complete mess.

The best part about your box is the way it sounds... "plong plong, plong plong plong plong!"

Maybe tomorrow when I come over we can paint it and put some flaming gargoyles on it... then you can help me learn to use it.. mr I never drop combos or jump while dashing anymore.

I'd say my hands are average. I can't really tell 'cause I don't know how to measure hands lol. Guess I'll just have to try for myself.

Problem for me is that I live in Peru, so I have to wait around 2-4 weeks for the set of buttons to arrive, costing me about 15$ each package shipping. (IL/Sanwa buttons are around 2.5$, so I'd need around 41$ for the 24mm ones, including shipping). I can find, however, the 30mm buttons here, so no shipping is required. They cost about 3$ but I don't have to wait at all.

Hmmm...decisions...decisions! Thank you all. Let's see some progress.
use the for sale/trade forums on neo-geo.com or SRK, you might find someone close who has some. I've got a giant bag full of sticks, buttons, ball tops, bat tops, from various projects and as spare parts for cabinents that I've racked up over the years, and I know I"m not alone. Someone might have some close by!

dude if I had the knowledge and craftsmanship to make my own I'd go for the mk layout buttons on the right side, although this may be problematic since you use your thumb for up?

mind taking video of it in action?

Abu, have you seen any of the Hitbox videos??? If you have a search for 'Hot to Hitbox' on Youtube, there is a video of it in action on MK ;)

The little clip of the Kabal block "trap"(allegedly :D) was great. Lol, "look what I can still do, with perfect execution"

To start off, I am a pad player. I don't use a stick and never really practiced using mine seriously.

Back in 2002 I used to play Tekken Tag Tournament with several friends on PS2. We all used pads, but one day I decided to build an arcade stick to try out. I've always loved MK games, which were hard not to love since I grew up in the Midway homeland, arcade-ridden, 90s Chicago. The purpose of the stick was for Tekken Tag, yet I've incorporated a semi-MK layout. In the end, I toyed around with my first creation for several hours and since then it has collected dust for years.

Browsing Shoryuken recently, I came across an interesting joystick-less arcade stick designed by Hitbox. Intrigued by the idea and the potential I wanted to try it out. Basically you use push buttons for directionals instead of the joystick. It's a hybrid, a balance between a stick and a pad. Instead of paying $160 for a custom build I've decided to resurrect my old stick, gut it, and try out a quick and dirty build with MK in mind.

Using my fiancee's recently discarded shoe box, I whipped this beasty up in about half and hour. I've reinforced the insides with more cardboard, and it's actually quite study. I can push down on it with quite a bit pressure and not have it cave in at all. Feels quite nice for $0 budget job, haha. I'm thinking about a real Hitbox build in the future.

I haven't played much with it yet, but it has a lot of potential once your brain and fingers get used to the design. Shoryuken motions like Kung Lao's spin and Ermac's slam are a breeze to perform. Kabal's spin from crouch is insanely easy to do. After reading more about the Hitbox design on Shoryuken and watching vids I am liking the idea more and more. However, I am a pad player, my transition might be hard.

Good thing is that I can recycle my pcb (hacked ps1 pad) and it is multi-platform compatible: PS1, PS2, PS3, PC, XB360 with my USB adapter.

Anyone have experience using the Hitbox design?

Here's a good video outlining its use:

Here is a little excerpt from a FAQ on Shoryuken:
"2. Why buttons?

By replacing the joystick with 4 directional buttons controlled by 4 fingers, you gain:

- Increased input speed (fastest dragon punch).
- Consistent inputs yield fewer mistakes.
- Exclusive control over your movement
- Sanwa buttons have little to no travel time.
- Instant high/low blocking.
- Button techniques apply to movement and special inputs (p-linking, piano roll,
double tap).
- Game-specific features, such as SSFIV input shortcuts (323 DPM).
- Fewer match-pressure mistakes, such as lost horizon and accidental jumps from
hard joystick motions.
- No arm/wrist motion.
- Downward pressure keeps box steady in your lap."

Neat. I'm thinking about drilling out one of my blank sega control panels with this layout, to use on my cabs. I have everything I need to do it, except motivation to build another jvs player harness. This would be sexy on a blast city. Plus, with how close the layout is, there is enough room for a joystick too. That is if you don't mind it being a little further out.

A guy I know on the PS3 side bought one of these. He seemed to be doing pretty well with it when I played him last, and he's had nothing but good things to say about it.

It's really not for me, but I can definitely see the appeal.

I played with it for a few hours yesterday and its amazing! I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with this and leave my PDP stick behind. I'll probably just use my PDP stick for modding purposes and switch exclusively to the Hitbox. I know its been a few hours with it, but it really is great.

Is there anything you guys want me to cover in my review? I have pictures of how it was shipped, pictures of it compared to a PDP Stick and a keyboard (for size purposes), I'm going to talk about the quality of the product versus the PDP, how I like the size, "Street Fighter" button set up instead of Mortal Kombat, of course talk about the pros and cons of the buttons versus the stick, and also some cool tricks I've picked up so far. Some examples are: 1) cross up jump in punches are hilariously easy, you just hold down the jump button and press the right then the left button and you can just keep doing it all day, 2) Raiden's teleport is so deadly because its SO easy to just repeatedly press down across the screen and then as soon as your opponent does something, boom, teleport.

I'd like to know how do you like the Hitbox case size. Could be any bigger, smaller?Enough space to let hands rest? i'd appreciate that!

I'd like to know does it perform as well and effective as a stick for games excluding MK that require more than just directional inputs. Is it overall good for EVERY type of FG?

When is the review going to be up?

Check out their youtube channel, I believe its "hitboxes". It was originally designed around SSF4. Most of the demo and tutorial vids on in SSF4. Pretty good shit

Ugh I can't wait until I finally get mine. I ordered a PS/360 one as well and just got on the list on 8/10. I feel like I won't get it until christmas. Although, that would make for a pretty sweet christmas present to myself.

Wait, can you start getting on the waiting list for a 360/PS3 Multi Console HitBox? I thought they weren't taking requests for that currently? Aren't they only doing PS3s as of now?

Yeah you can, I was on the list but I asked them to take me off, they don't put MK on Xbox360s in tournament anyway

Yeah I have a 360 @ home that is why. :(. How do I do this? Do I just click the PS3HB and ask to Dual Mod it or something, because there's only one option available.
